This wikiHow article will guide how to delete a Skype account. You need a computer to do this. Note that Microsoft will not delete your Skype account immediately. The account will be deleted 60 days after you bookmark it.

Steps

1. 

   Open the Microsoft account deletion page. Visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=523898. You will be directed to the login page.

   Type in your Skype credentials. Type in your password and email address, then click Sign in. This step helps confirm that you are the owner of the Skype account.

   Choose an authentication option. Click Text or Email, then type the last 4 digits of your phone number or full email address.
   • If you haven't linked your phone to your Skype account yet, you'll only see the option Email.

   Click Send code. This button is in the lower right corner of the screen. Clicking this button causes Microsoft to send a message or email containing a code to a phone number or email address.

   Get your verification code. Depending on your selection above, the steps will be slightly different:
   • Text Open the text of your phone and click on Microsoft message (usually includes seven numbers). This authentication code is usually in the text "Use ####### as Microsoft account security code".
   • Email - Go to your email account, click on the Microsoft email that says "Microsoft account security code", then look at the 7 numbers next to "Security code:" in the middle of the email. Check the "Updates" and "Spam" folders if you can't find the email within a few minutes.

   Enter your code. Type your code into the "Code" text field near the bottom of the screen.

   Click Verify. This green button is in the lower right corner of the screen. You will be directed to the "Ready to close" page.
   • You will likely need to click on a link No thanks on the next page before going to the "Ready to close" page.

   Click next. This button is in the lower left corner of the "Make sure is ready to close" page.
   • Make sure to read this site's request for account deletion.

   Check each box of the page. Clicking on each cell to the left has a different effect on the page.

    Choose a reason for deleting your account. Click the drop-down box Select a reason located at the bottom of the page, then click on the reason for deleting your account.
    • Click My reason is listed in the drop-down menu if you have no reason.

    Click Mark account for closure. This green button is in the lower left corner of the page. Once clicked, your Skype account will be marked for deletion. 60 days later, Skype account will be permanently deleted.
    • If the line Mark account for closure gray means that you have not checked all the boxes and / or have not selected the reason for deleting your account.

Advice

• You are allowed to cancel the account deletion process at any time within 60 days by logging back into your account.
• The easiest way to delete your Skype account is to change your password to a random line, stop using Skype and change your Skype status to "offline" or "invisible". After one year of not using Skype, the account will be deleted.

Warning

• Once you delete your account, you can't recover anything.
