PlayStation 4 (PS4) is a game console that allows setting up many different users in the same system. When it comes to deleting a user, the process is very simple.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Delete other users from primary account

1. 

   Sign in to your main account. Turn on the PS4 and enter your credentials as usual. To delete other accounts, you will need to be logged in as the primary user.

   Go to “Settings”. From the home screen, push up on the left joystick to open the options menu. Keep using the left stick to navigate, scroll right until you find the toolbox icon of “Settings”. Press “X” to select it.

   Open the “Login settings” screen. From the settings menu, scroll down to the “User Management” option. From here, click "Delete User".

   Delete the user you want to delete. Scroll down to the user you want to remove. Press “X” then confirm to delete that user. Then, just follow the PS4's instructions.
   • To remove the primary account, the PS4 will have to re-launch. After pressing the "Delete" button, you will be asked to confirm restarting the PS4. Your system will now be restored to factory settings. Any data that has not been backed up will be lost forever.
     • To back up your data, go to Settings> Application Saved Data Management> Saved Data in System Storage. Select "Cloud" to save the data to the cloud or "USB Storage" to save to a USB device, such as a backup hard drive. Select the game and application you want to back up and press "Copy".
   • Do not turn off the PS4 while the backup is in progress: you may seriously damage it.

   Check if the account has been successfully deleted. Sign out of PS4 and then log back in. If the user is no longer displayed on the preferences screen then you have successfully removed them from the system. advertisement

Method 2 of 3: Perform a factory reset from the primary account

1. 

   Sign in to the main account. Turn on the PS4 and enter your credentials as usual. You will need to be logged in as the primary user.

2. 

   Go to "Settings". From the home screen, push up on the left joystick to get to an options menu. Continue using this left stick to navigate, scroll right until you find the "Settings" toolbox. Press “X” to select it.

   Open the “Initialization” screen. From the settings menu, scroll down to “Initialization”. From there, click “Initialize PS4”. Select “Full” and follow the instructions. PS4 will be restored to factory settings, any data that has not been backed up, such as outages, screenshots, etc. will be deleted.
   • To back up your data, go to Settings> Application Saved Data Management> Saved Data in System Storage. Select "Cloud" to save to the cloud or "USB Storage" to save to a USB device such as a backup hard drive. Select the games and apps you want to back up then click "Copy".
   • A full factory reset will take several hours. Do not turn off the PS4 during this process, as doing so may result in serious damage.

Method 3 of 3: Delete the user by resetting the factory settings yourself

1. 

   Back up data you don't want to lose. Go to Settings> Application Saved Data Management> Saved Data in System Storage. Select "Cloud" to save to the cloud or "USB Storage" to save to a USB device such as a backup hard drive.Select the games and apps you want to back up then click "Copy".

   Turn off the heat. Press the power button for a few seconds. Wait until the beep sounds and the light turns red. Drop arm.

   Power on. Hold down the power button again. You will hear two beeps, the latter appears about 7 seconds after the first. Drop arm.

   Click “Restore Default Settings”. When the PS4 is running again, you will be put into safe mode. Now use the left joystick to navigate down to the "Restore Default Settings" option. Press “X” to select and follow the PS4's instructions. Your PS4 will be restored to factory settings, any unsaved data like outages, screenshots, etc. will be deleted.
   • In safe mode, the controller must be connected to the camera body via USB port.
   • You should only use this method in case you have to launch PS4 without a password.
