Mix a mixture of baking soda and water. Mix ½ cup (170 g) baking soda with 3 tablespoons (15 ml) of water in a small bowl. Stir well until a plaster is formed. Adjust the amount of water used if the mixture is not viscous and not plastered.

Spread the mixture evenly inside the oven. You can apply the mixture by hand if you wear rubber gloves. If you don't want to use your hands, you can shovel. Put the mixture on the walls in the oven, but do not on the heating elements.

• If the dough turns brown or lumps in some areas of the oven, that's fine.

Leave the mixture on overnight. Baking soda works best if left overnight or for 12 hours. If you can't wait, let the mixture sit for 40 minutes. However, you may need to reapply if you only keep the mixture for such a short time.

Wipe off baking soda. Use a damp cloth to wipe off any baking soda you've applied after the waiting time has elapsed. Use warm water to moisten the towel. You may need to rub vigorously to remove the baking soda mixture.

Scrape off the remaining dough. If you are having trouble wiping the dough with a damp cloth, use a shovel to scrape off any remaining dough in the oven. There may still be some powder left, but that shouldn't be a problem, as you will use vinegar to clean it again. advertisement

Part 3 of 3: Complete the vinegar cleaning

   Spray vinegar on the inside of the oven. Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray the vinegar over the entire area with the baking soda mixture. The vinegar will make the baking soda bubble.

   Wipe the oven again. Use a damp cloth to wipe areas with bubbles. If the powder still remains, spray on the vinegar and wipe it off. Continue wiping until oven is completely clean.

   Clean the baking rack. Sprinkle baking soda over the baking rack. Then, water or spray white vinegar on the rack. The baking soda will begin to bubble.When the baking soda is bubbly, dip the baking soda in a pot of hot water and soak it overnight.

   Replace the grill rack. After you finish cleaning, you will install the grill rack back to its original position. You also reinsert any removable items when cleaning the oven. Your oven is now ready to go. advertisement

Advice

• You may need to clean it again if the oven is not as clean as expected.
• Add 1/8 cup (240 ml) of detergent to the mixture if baking soda and water cannot clean the oven.

• Remember to wear rubber gloves while cleaning the oven to avoid skin irritation.
