uTorrent typically shows sponsored ads on the free version of a torrent app. Ads help uTorrent stay free but can slow down your computer. You can pay to upgrade uTorrent to the ad-free (ad-free) version, but not everyone knows that ads can be easily disabled in the preferences section. Let's learn how to adjust some of the settings, as well as upgrade to uTorrent Ad-Free to disable ads on uTorrent.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Disable Ads in uTorrent Preferences

1. 

   Open the uTorrent app. While the free version of uTorrent shows ads by default, you can still disable ads in the Preferences menu.

   Select "False" below the Advanced Options box. When you click on "gui.show_plus_upsell", two radio buttons labeled "True" and "False" will appear below the Advanced Options box. Click the button next to the "False" option to disable advertising in the lower left corner of uTorrent.

   Click to highlight the line offers.special_torrent_offer_enabled in the Advanced Options list, then click on “False.Similarly, you can scroll down the list until you find the option, or use the Filter pane. Turning this option to false disables the billboard at the top of the torrent list.

   Set more Advanced Options to “False.Now you need to find and set all the options below to the value "False." Some may already be preset, but check back to be sure.
   • offers.left_rail_offer_enabled
   • offers.special_torrent_offer_enabled
   • gui.show_notorrents_node
   • offers.content_offer_autoexec
   • bt.enable_pulse

   Click "OK" to save the changes.
   • Note: If you don't find one (or more) of the above options under Advanced Options then don't worry. Sometimes uTorrent renames these options. Go back to the Advanced Options screen and enter "offer" in the "Filter" box. After that, change all options that are currently "True" to "False".

   Click “File” and select “Exit” to close uTorrent. To make sure all your changes take effect, restart uTorrent.

Method 2 of 2: Upgrade to uTorrent Ad-Free

1. 

   Open the uTorrent app. uTorrent displays sponsored ads that make it available for free. You can upgrade to uTorrent Ad-Free to both remove ads and support developers.

   Click “Options” in the top menu and select “Get uTorrent Pro”. There are two upgrade options: Ad-Free and Pro. Both versions offer an ad-free user experience, but there are a few notable differences:
   • Upgrading to Ad-Free costs $ 4.95 / year.
   • The Pro version costs $ 19.95, which includes an anti-malware program, tech support, a file converter, and an instant torrent release feature.

   Click “Upgrade to Ad-Free”. The payment website will open in your default browser.
   • If you're on a Mac and can't find the "Upgrade to Ad-Free" task, try clicking the little X on the ad in the lower left corner of the app.
   • If you want to upgrade to uTorrent Pro, click “Upgrade to Pro”.

   Enter your billing information in the blank data fields provided.
   • To pay by credit card, enter your card details next to the “Credit Card” option.
   • If you want to pay with PayPal, click "PayPal." You will be asked to sign in and pay with your PayPal account as soon as you are done on this page.

   Check the information again then click the "Buy Now" button. If you are using a Mac computer, uTorrent will automatically upgrade to the Ad-Free version. If it's Windows, quit uTorrent and continue with this method.

   (Windows) Click “Bundle Installer” to download the Ad-Free version of uTorrent. The installation file will be downloaded to your computer. The file will have the extension “.exe” and be saved in the default download folder.

   Double-click the.exe file to install uTorrent Ad-Free. Once the installation program has been downloaded to your computer, double-click it to install it. Follow the instructions to replace uTorrent with a new paid version with no ads. advertisement

Advice

• The Windows uTorrent Pro certificate cannot be used on the Mac version of Ad-Free.
• If you use some private torrent site that is notoriously strict with the torrent clients they allow, consider disabling the "Automatically Install Updates" feature under Preferences> General. If uTorrent automatically updates to the version not approved by your private torrent site, you won't be able to download any content until a new version is added.
• Be cautious when changing advanced options in uTorrent because if you tweak it inappropriately, the app can run into problems.
