To use the Wii Remote (also known as the Wiimote) and play on the Wii or Wii U, you need to first sync your controller with the game console. This will be useful if someone comes to your house to play with their Wii Remote. You can also sync Wii Remote with your computer for use on the Dolphin emulator.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Sync with Wii

1. 

   Turn on the Wii and check to make sure it is not running any programs.

   Remove the back cover on the back of the Wii Remote.

   Open the SD card cover from the front of the Wii. If you have a Wii Mini, the Sync button can be found on the left side of the console near the battery compartment.

   Press and release the Sync button on the back of the Wii Remote. This button is located below the battery compartment. The LED light located on the Wii Remote will begin to blink.

   Quickly click and release the Sync button on the Wii while the lights on the Wii Remote blink.

Troubleshoot

1. 

   Make sure there are no programs running. Wii may not be able to sync if certain games are using the channel.Make sure you have the Wii main menu open when you sync.
   • Remove the game disc (if applicable) from your system if you still cannot synchronize.

   You need to make sure that the Wii Remote has enough battery. Wii Remote uses AA batteries, so the device cannot sync with enough power. Try replacing the batteries to see if the problem gets fixed.

   Unplug the power cable from the port behind the Wii and wait about 20 seconds. Then, plug the cable back in and turn on the unit. This process will reset the Wii and may fix the problem.

   The sensor bar must be placed above or below the TV set. The sensor bar is the means by which the Wii Remote points to the content on the screen. This device works best when placed above or below the TV.

Method 2 of 3: Sync with Wii U

1. 

   Turn on Wii U and check if the main menu is showing.
   • If you try to launch Wii Mode without syncing with the Wii Remote, the system will prompt you to proceed with the sync.

   Hold down the Sync button on the front of the Wii U until the Sync screen appears.

   Remove the Wii Remote back cover.

Troubleshoot

1. 

   You need to make sure that there are no programs running. Wii U will not be able to sync if there are games already playing on the channel. The Wii U main menu should be displayed if you want to proceed with synchronization.

Method 3 of 3: Sync with Windows PC

1. 

   Use USB Bluetooth (or Bluetooth dongle) if the computer does not have a built-in Bluetooth adapter. Wii Remote can be connected to a computer via Bluetooth and used on a Dolphin emulator (or other program).
   • You will need to re-pair the Wii Remote every time the computer reboots.

   Right-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray and select "Add a device".

   Press the "1" and "2" buttons on the Wii Remote one after another so the lights start to flash.

   Select "Nintendo RVL-CNT-01" from the list of devices and click.next.

5. 

   Select "Pair without using a code" and click.next.

6. 

   Wait for the Wii Remote to pair with the computer.

   Open Dolphin and click the "Wiimote" button.

8. 

   Select "Real Wiimote" from the "Input Source" menu. That way, you'll be able to use Wii Remote while playing games on the emulator.

Troubleshoot

1. 

   Close Dolphin before trying to sync with the Wii Remote. When you sync the controller with the Dolphin open, it is likely that the device will not appear in the controller selection menu.
