In this article, wikiHow teaches you how to invite someone to chat in Google Hangouts via the Hangouts website from your Android device's browser or mobile app.

Method 1 of 2: Use the browser on the desktop

1. 

   Open the Google Hangouts website in an internet browser. Type hangouts.google.com in your browser's address bar, and tap ↵ Enter on the keyboard.
   • If your Google account in your browser doesn't sign in automatically, sign in with your email or phone and password.

   Press New conversation (New conversation). This button looks like a plus sign "+"white in green circle below Google logo in the upper left corner of the browser window.

   Enter the name, email address, or phone number of the person you want to invite. Bar Search (Search) will list all the matches.

   Click a person in the list. Scroll down to find the person you want to invite and tap their name or photo to invite them to start a Hangouts chat. A chat dialog box will appear on the right side of the browser window.

   Customize your invitation. You should see the default invitation message "Let's chat on Hangouts!" (Let's chat on Hangouts!) In the chat box. Tap that and enter your own invitation.

   Press Send Invite (Send invitation). This is the blue button below the invitation message line in the chat box. You will see a green check mark and a confirmation message that says "Invite Sent!" (Invitation sent). The other party will receive your invitation immediately. advertisement

Method 2 of 2: Using Apps on Android

1. 

   Open the Hangouts app on your Android device. The Hangouts icon looks like a green speech bubble with white quotes inside.
   • If the Hangouts app doesn't automatically sign in to your Google account, sign in with your email or phone and password.

   Click on the mark + white blue background. This button is in the lower right corner of the screen. This will let you choose from New conversation (New conversation) and New video call (New video call).

   Press New conversation (New conversation). This button looks like a white speech bubble in a green circle. List Contacts (Contacts) will be displayed.

   Enter the name, email address, or phone number of the person you want to invite. Bar Search (Search) at the top of the screen will list all the matches.

   Press Invite (Invite) next to a contact's name. This option will be on the right side of the phone next to the contact's photo and profile name. A dialog box will pop up.

   Press INVITE TO HANGOUTS (INTO HANGOUTS). This option is written in green capital letters at the bottom of the pop-up dialog.

7. 

   Enter an invitation. Enter a Hangouts invitation for the person who needs to contact.

8. 

   Press the Send button. Your partner will receive an invitation to join Hangouts from you immediately. advertisement
