This wikiHow teaches you how to download YouTube videos so that you can watch them offline on your iPad. Using a third-party app to download videos violates YouTube's user agreement and maybe even copyright law, so most apps that do this will eventually be removed from the App Store.

Method 1 of 2: Using YouTube Red

  1. Open YouTube. It is a white app with a red rectangle surrounding a white triangle.
  2. Tap your Google profile picture. It's in the top right corner of the screen.
    • If you are not logged in, tap the red and white silhouette at the top right of the screen, tap LOG IN and enter your Google username and password.
  3. Tap Get YouTube Red. This is at the top of the menu.
    • YouTube Red is a paid subscriber service that allows you to download videos to watch offline without violating the YouTube user agreement.
    • If you watch a video streams you actually watch just like you watch TV, without having a copy in your possession, but you do need an internet connection. Streaming protects the copyright of the video creators.
    • Downloaded videos take up storage space on your iPad, but you can watch them without an internet connection. If you did not purchase or record the video yourself, or have permission from the creator, owning a copy of the video is likely a violation of copyright law. Downloading a video from YouTube in most cases violates the YouTube User Agreement.
  4. Tap TRY IT FREE. This is the blue button on the right side of the screen.
    • A 30-day trial period is available at the start of membership.
    • You can cancel in the YouTube settings menu.
  5. Enter your password. Enter your Apple ID password to confirm your purchase.
  6. Tap Okay.
  7. Tap the "Search" icon. This is the magnifying glass in the top right corner of the screen.
  8. Enter a search term. Use the search bar at the top of the screen to enter the title or description of a video.
  9. Tap ⋮. This is next to the title of the video you want to download.
  10. Tap Save offline. This is in the center of the screen.
  11. Select a quality. Depending on the quality of the original video, you can choose the quality of the video you are going to download.
    • Higher quality uses more storage space on your iPad.
  12. Tap OK. This will download the video to your iPad.
  13. Tap Library. This is an icon in the form of a folder at the bottom of the screen.

  12. Open Documents 5. This is a white app with brown "D ".
  13. Tap Browser. This is at the top left of the screen.
  14. Go to SaveFrom.net. Enter "savefrom.net" in the search bar at the top of the browser and tap Return.
  15. Tap and hold Just Insert a Link. This is right below the search bar.
  16. Tap Paste. This will add the YouTube link to the search field.
  17. Tap>. This is the button to the right of the link you entered.
  18. Select a video quality. Tap the text to the right of the "Download" button, below the link you entered. This will open a menu of available video formats and qualities. Tap a quality to select it.
