Have you tried making a movie with Windows Movie maker, but couldn't? We'll tell you how! You will love working with this program and you will finally make the movie you always wanted to make. Lots of fun!

To step

  1. Open the file or movie. Then click on “Import video”; it will take a while to import depending on the size of the file and how long the video is.
  2. Click and drag the videos to the storyboard, which can be found at the bottom of the window.
  3. Add effects. On the Tools menu, click Effects. In the Content panel, click the effect you want to add. You can click Play below the preview window to preview the effect.
  4. Add transitions. On the storyboard or timeline, click on the second of the two video clips, titles or images between which you want to add a transition. On the Tools menu, click Transitions. In the Content panel, click the transition you want to add. You can click Play below the preview window to preview the transition. Click Clip and then click Add to Timeline or Add to Storyboard.
  5. Add music or shorten the clips by clicking on the timeline at the bottom of the screen.
  6. If you want to make a clip shorter, click on the half triangle on the side of the clip, you can move it until you have reached the desired length.
  7. Set the camera to Mute if you want to make a music video. You don't want extra audio, just the music. Then you go to “Import audio or music” and select a song. Then you drag it to the timeline. You can also shorten the music with the triangle.
  8. Add a title or movie titles by clicking the appropriate link in the left column. On the left you can add functions, such as director, producer or the role. On the right you put the names of the people who participated.
  9. Click on the timeline. Now you can see the timeline with the song, title, videos, effects and transitions. You can then watch the movie by pressing play on the left side of the screen.
  10. When you are satisfied click on “Save to my computer” or you can burn it to CD or DVD.

Tips

  • Make sure your movie has the correct format. For example, you cannot import MP4 into Movie Maker. You can convert it first, for example with FFmpeg or MEncoder first.
  • For a flash effect, cut your video in half and add "fade out from white" in the middle. This works well with music clips.
  • To adjust the volume of an audio clip, right-click on the clip and click Volume. Adjust the volume with the slider that appears.

Warnings

  • Never make a movie with copyrighted clips unless you have explicit permission.
  • Make sure to save your project often.
