Our skin produces oil to protect against dirt and to stay hydrated, but sometimes excess oil can build up and make your face glow. Some people produce more skin oil than others, but everyone can benefit from certain measures for healthier facial skin. Read on to learn how to get rid of oily skin on your face.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Quick fixes

  1. Experiment with other oils. Olive oil has the same pH as skin oil, so it is the perfect cleanser. However, everyone's skin is unique, and some skin types respond well to different oils. Try the following:
    • Coconut oil. This is often used as a moisturizer and cleanser.
    • Tea tree oil. It is a good idea to add a few drops of this if your skin is acne prone as it is a natural antibiotic.
    • Linseed oil. This light oil is great for all skin types.

Method 3 of 3: Prevent your skin from getting greasy

  1. Wash your face less often. The fat that our skin naturally produces is called sebum. It is a useful fat that protects our skin and keeps it supple and healthy. Washing too often results in more fat being produced by the skin to replenish the lost fat. This overproduction is the cause of oily skin. Avoid this as follows:
    • Don't wash your face more than once a day. If you want to degrease your skin in between washes, use tissue paper instead of washing your face.
    • Apply moisturizer to your face after washing. If your face gets too dry, your pores will produce extra oil to compensate.
    • It may take a few days for your face to find its balance through this new routine.
  2. Do not use products that dry out the skin. Using soap and facial cleansers in an effort to get rid of oily skin will only make your pores produce more of it to compensate. Forget about using soap-based cleansers on your face, especially those with harsh cleansers like sodium dodecyl sulfate.
    • It is better to wash your face with water than to use a facial cleanser. Use the oil method when your face needs to be deeply cleansed.
    • If you are concerned about acne, use tea tree oil and other natural methods instead of relying on harsh agents, which will only irritate the acne more.
  3. Use make-up that will not cause your face to produce more oil. Choosing the right make-up is an important part of combating oily skin. Filling your skin with makeup won't solve the problem, so use it sparingly. Choose a matte foundation and mineral powders to help absorb fat and keep your face from glowing.
  4. Ready.

Tips

  • When applying make-up, use clean brushes and cosmetic sponges, and always have clean hands.
