Sun-dried raisins are a delicious natural snack and can be used in a variety of recipes, such as oat and raisin cookies. It is not difficult to make them if you just follow these simple steps.

To step

  1. Start with fresh white or red grapes. Make sure they are fresh and ripe, but not too soft or damaged. Check them carefully.
  2. Remove the large branches from the grapes and wash the grapes well. Do not remove all sprigs from the grapes. If you don't know where exactly the grapes come from, just rinse them off with a solution of 1 liter of water and two drops of bleach.
  3. Put them on a platter. Use a wooden, bamboo or plastic bowl with holes to allow air to circulate around the grapes.
  4. Place them outside in a dry, sunny spot (this requires warm, dry weather). If it gets damp at night, put the bowl indoors at night.
  5. Leave them out in the sun for 2-3 days, or until dried (sample to test). Turn the grapes over so that all sides are exposed to the sun.
  6. Carefully remove the dried grapes from the stems and store them in an airtight container in a cool place.
  7. Ready.

Tips

  • Watch out for moisture or rot. If some of the grapes start to go moldy, take them out immediately and spread the rest of the grapes a little further apart to dry. Remember raisins should be shriveled and small, not soft and rotten.
  • Overripe grapes take longer to dry and may be rotten before drying. It is better to use sweet, not quite ripe grapes.
  • Raisins from the store are often hanging on a thread, still dried on the truss. This is more difficult than on a scale, but it works better because a lot of air can circulate around the grapes.
  • Protect the drying grapes from insects such as flies. If necessary, cover them with cheesecloth (not plastic) or gauze.
  • Warm air (like a breeze) makes the fruit dry faster. Place the bowl with grapes preferably in a warm place with a little wind.
