Pop ups were once the big disadvantage of the internet. On every website you were hassled with countless extra screens with ads and offers and it took tons of time to close them all. Fortunately, a lot has changed and you can easily block most pop-ups. This is also possible in Google Chrome. However, sometimes you need pop ups and so you will have to allow them temporarily. In this article, you can read exactly how to do this in Chrome.

To step

1. Open the Chrome menu (☰). Click on "Settings" at the bottom of the menu. A new tab will now open in which you can adjust the settings of your browser.
2. Click on "View advanced settings". This link can be found at the bottom of the list of settings. Clicking on it will make the list of settings longer.
3. Open "Content Settings". You can find this under the heading Privacy. Pressing the button opens a new screen.
4. Scroll to the heading "Pop ups". Chrome's default setting is that no popups are allowed for security reasons. Pop ups can cause viruses on your computer and on some sites they are difficult to close. You can set Chrome to allow popups on all sites, but that's not the smartest choice. You are better off choosing a limited number of sites where you allow pop-ups. This way you run as little risk as possible and you can still install programs and do other things that require pop-ups.
5. Add websites to your exceptions list. You do this by clicking Manage exceptions ... Then enter the website on which you want to allow popups. Make sure the drop-down menu next to the site is set to "Allow". When you are done adding websites, click Save.
   • Only allow pop-ups on websites you trust.
6. Close the Settings tab. Reload the website to see the effect of the new settings. If still no popups appear, check that the extensions you have installed are not blocking the popup. If so, you can disable the extension.

Warnings

• Allowing popups on Google Chrome can slow down your computer and sometimes hang. Some popups contain videos that are automatically played. This slows down your internet connection and puts more demands on your hardware. This can cause websites to load slower or your computer to stop functioning properly.
