Content

Unleavened bread is bread that is made without leavening agents (ingredients that can cause fermentation), such as yeast, baking soda, baking powder, or whipped egg whites. Unleavened bread is of great importance in Christianity, it is used in the sacrament of Holy Communion, and the Bible says that Jesus shared it with his disciples at the Last Supper. In some churches unleavened bread is baked by a member of the congregation on special holidays. (You can adjust the amounts in the recipe if you want to add ground oats, rye, buckwheat or other cereals.)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 2 tablespoons of butter or oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup of water or milk
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

To step

Method 1 of 2: Make unleavened bread

  1. Mix all dry ingredients (flour and salt) in a mixing bowl and stir them together.
  2. Beat the eggs and the oil or butter together and add this to the dry ingredients.
  3. Add the milk, and beat the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes until it is fairly smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into three greased 20 cm baking tins.
  5. Bake it at 230 ºC for 20 minutes.

Method 2 of 2: The Biblical History of Unleavened Bread

  1. Know that unleavened bread is a very important element of Passover in the Bible.
    • The day after Passover became the first day of unleavened bread, the beginning of the feast of unleavened bread. The first and seventh days of this were considered sacred, on which believers gathered and offered sacrifices to God.
  2. Celebrate Biblical history with your unleavened bread, remembering the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
    • This period was so sacred that the Israelis had to throw away all raising agents from all over the house. All people who saw themselves as God's people were to eat unleavened bread every day of this seven-day feast.
  3. Ready.

Tips

  • To prevent it from sticking, you can dust the baking pan with flour after greasing it. By only using fat or oil, the bread sticks.
  • Check the bread regularly while it is in the oven. Unleavened bread baked too long will become rock hard and fall apart.
  • To give some different flavors to your bagels, add 1/4 cup of honey or grated cheese to the batter.
