Method 2 of 3: Driving for Uber

  1. Go to https://www.uber.com in a web browser. Do this from a web browser, not the Uber smartphone app.
  2. Click on Become a driver. This is the green button in the top right corner of the screen.
    • To drive for Uber, you must be 21 or older, have a valid driver's license, insurance and a legally registered car that meets the Uber criteria for your city.
  3. Enter your personal information. Enter the requested information, such as your name and phone number, in the form on the right side of the screen. When the form is complete, click Next one to go on.

  4. Click Continue if your vehicle meets the requirements on the screen.
  5. Enter your social security number or other identification number. Enter the number in the box provided and click Get on. Uber uses this number to perform a background check.
  6. Click I Agree & Acknowledge to agree to the background check.
    • Uber does not check your credit or share your information with others.
  7. Upload a photo of your driver's license.
    • If you're using your smartphone or tablet to fill out the form, tap Take photo with my phone and follow the onscreen instructions to upload the photo.
    • If you are using a computer, take a photo of your driver's license with a smartphone and send the photo to your computer. Click on "Upload photo".

  9. Take a photo of (or scan) your vehicle inspection form.

  12. Upload your vehicle inspection form. A popup will appear asking if you have completed your inspection. click on Yes and then on Leaves to navigate to the photo or scanned inspection form.
  13. Upload photos of all requested documents. You will now be asked to upload a copy of your insurance card, registration card and business license (if required by your city or country).
    • San Francisco CA, Portland OR, and Las Vegas NV all require Uber drivers to purchase corporate licenses.
    • To find out if a business license is required to drive Uber in your city, contact your city's revenue department.
  14. Download the Uber app. Choose iPhone or Android to send a download link directly to your smartphone. The link will launch your phone's app store, where you download it like any other app.
  15. Click Play on the welcome video. This video teaches you more about driving with Uber, including information on how to use the app on your smartphone.
  16. Check the post. As long as your documents are approved and your background check is successful, you will receive a welcome pack from Uber in a few days (although it can take up to 2 weeks if demand is high). This pack contains all the information you need to get on the road, including an Uber sticker for your windshield.

Method 3 of 3: Refer friends to drive with Uber

  1. Open the Uber app. You can refer friends, family and people you are connected to on social media to drive with Uber by sharing your personal code. Once your friend signs up for Uber, they'll get their first ride for free. And once they take that first free ride, you get a free Uber ride yourself too.
    • The people you refer may not yet have accounts with Uber. They must create a new account with your personal code so that both of you can take advantage of this offer.
    • The amount of the free ride credit varies per area, but is usually a maximum of € 15 per ride.
  2. Click on ☰. It's in the top left corner of the screen.
  3. Click on Free rides.
  4. Click Send Invitations. Your code will appear under "Your invitation code".
  5. Select an app to share your code with. You can share your code via email, text message or with almost any social media app. After you choose an app, you can use it to send a message to anyone you want to share your code with.
    • The person you are referring must click on your link or enter the code manually so that you both get credit.
