Vending machines come in handy if you want to buy snacks or a drink on the go. Operating a machine is not difficult: enter money and press the appropriate button for the product you want to buy. If your product gets stuck inside the machine, you can or try to loosen it. You can also contact the company to get your money back.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Using the machine

  1. Look up the price and code of the product you want to buy. Look under the product you want to buy to find the code and price. The code will be a series of numbers, letters, or a combination of the two, which you must enter to select the product. Each line will start with a different number or letter. The price can usually be found to the right of the code.
    • If the machine is not transparent and only shows pictures of the products it contains, press the button corresponding to the product you want. The price should then appear on the screen next to the money slot, or you will be able to see that the product is sold out.
  2. Enter the correct amount of money for the product. If you are using any, smooth paper money before inserting it so that it is not wrinkled. Look at the sticker next to the money slot to find the correct way to enter the money. If you are using coins, insert them into the coin slot. The amount of money you need to enter should be shown on the screen.
    • Avoid using paper money that has been torn as the machine may not accept it.
    • Many machines do not accept paper money with a value higher than € 10.
  3. Scan or enter your debit card if the machine is a bit newer. Newer machines often allow you to pay with your debit or credit card. Find the card reader next to the money slot and scan or insert your card to pay with it.
  4. Enter the code or press the button for your product. Check the code for the product you want to buy and enter it correctly. If you make a mistake, press the cancel button. If the machine you are using does not require a code, simply press the button for your product. Once the code has been typed in, the machine will issue your product for you to retrieve.
    • Some drink vending machines dispense the bottles via a canister on the side of the vending machine.
  5. Check the coin case for change. Find the coin case under the coin slot. If you entered more money than the price of your product, take out your change.
    • Try to check the coin case before using the machine to see if there are any coins left in it from the previous person who used the machine.

Method 2 of 2: Remove products from the machine when they are stuck

  1. Open and close the door at the bottom of the machine if the product is stuck close to the bottom. Push the door open to create suction in the machine. If your product is loose enough, the suction will pull it down so you can grab it.
  2. Rock the machine side to side to try to release your product. Put your hands on the sides of the machine and grip it firmly. Gently push the machine to one side and then let it fall upright again. Products that are loose or stuck should then fall down.
    • If you can't move the machine with your hands, try standing on one side of the machine and pushing your body against it.
  3. Call the phone number listed on the side of the machine to get your money back. Find the number next to the money slot. If you cannot get your product out of the machine, please contact the vending machine company and let them know about the problem so you can get your money back.
    • Avoid using the same machine where products often get stuck in the future so that you don't keep losing your money.

Warnings

  • Do not rock or tilt the machine towards you, as it could fall on top of you.
