An iced latte is a great way to cool down on a hot summer afternoon. There are several ways to make this espresso variety at home - with a traditional latte, with cold brew espresso, or even with coffee and ice. The best thing about making your iced latte's yourself is that you can experiment with different brewing methods, extra ingredients and even various garnishes.

Ingredients

Cold brew iced latte

  • 1 cup (85 g) of coffee beans
  • 3 cups (705 ml) of cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) of cold milk
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons (5 to 10 g) of sugar, to taste
  • 5 ice cubes

Traditional espresso latte on ice

  • 60 ml of water
  • 3¾ tablespoons (20 g) of ground coffee
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons (5 to 10 g) of sugar, to taste
  • 1 cup (240 ml) of cold milk
  • 5 ice cubes

To step

Method 1 of 3: Make cold brew iced latte

  1. Weigh and grind the beans. Cold brew coffee requires more coffee than the regular hot brew. You need one cup (85 g) of ground beans for this cold brew, so weigh out one heaped cup of whole coffee beans. Place the beans in the coffee grinder and pulse until they are about the size of coarse sea salt.
    • The type of coffee you will brew determines the grain you need - for cold brew coffee you need the normal to coarse grind.
  2. Serve the iced drink. Fill the glass halfway with ice to keep it cool. You can also garnish the iced latte with cocoa, chocolate shavings, vanilla sugar, cinnamon, or other favorite coffee additions.

Method 2 of 3: Make a traditional espresso latte on ice

  1. Cool the latte. Let the latte cool for about 30 minutes. When the glass feels cool, put the latte in the fridge and let it cool until it is thoroughly chilled. This can take a few hours. To speed up the process, stir the latte every 30 minutes to distribute chilled liquid.
    • Do not refrigerate the latte once it is ready or the change in temperature may cause the cup to break.
    • Do not add ice to the latte to chill it while it is still warm or hot, as this will melt the ice and dilute the latte.
  2. Serve on ice when the latte has cooled. When the latte is completely chilled, fill a tall glass with ice. Pour the chilled latte over the ice. Garnish the latte with one of your favorite coffee extras, such as whipped cream or nutmeg, and serve.

Method 3 of 3: Make other types of iced latte

  1. Make a simple iced latte with coffee. Brew a cup of coffee, but twice as strong. When the coffee is ready, set it aside to cool. Then you put half of the coffee in a glass and let it cool down, and make ice cubes from the rest. Freeze the cubes of coffee until they are completely frozen. To make the latte, do the following:
    • Put the cold coffee and coffee ice cubes in a martini shaker
    • Add a cup (240 ml) of milk and sugar to taste
    • Shake well so that all ingredients are mixed and the milk starts to foam
    • Pour it into a coffee mug or glass and enjoy
    • You can also use coffee ice cubes to cool hot coffee without it getting watery
  2. Customize your coffee with garnish. Iced lattes are often served with additional flavors and ingredients. After pouring the iced latte over ice, you can add your favorite coffee flavor, sprinkle spices on top, sprinkle the top with chocolate or caramel sauce, or top with a dollop of whipped cream.
    • Some popular flavors for iced coffee and latte are chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut and peppermint.
    • Some popular spices for iced latte's are ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg.
