In Minecraft, a pickaxe is used to dig for ore in a mine and certain blocks. Depending on what the pickaxe is made of, the speed and durability will vary and each block or ore needs a different pickaxe.

Method 1 of 5: Making a wooden pickaxe

This is the most basic pickaxe within Minecraft. This one is very useful for quarrying rock to extract cobblestone.

1. If you haven't already done this, make a workbench or grid.
2. Place a stick in the center box of the bottom row.
3. Place another stick in the middle box of the grid.
4. Place a block of wood in each of the top compartments of the grid.
5. Create the pickaxe. Drag the object or Shift-click to include it in inventory.

Method 2 of 5: Making a stone pickaxe

1. Chop cobblestone with the wooden pickaxe.
2. Go to your workbench or schedule.
3. Place the sticks in the central box of the grid and the middle box of the bottom row.
4. Place cobblestone in the three top compartments of the grid.
5. Create the stone pickaxe. Drag the object or Shift-click to add it to inventory.

Method 3 of 5: Making an iron pickaxe

1. Chop iron ore with your stone pickaxe. Melt the iron ore.
2. Go to your workbench or the schedule.
3. Place the sticks in the central box of the grid and the middle box of the bottom row.
4. Place the molten iron ore in the three top compartments of the grid.
5. Create the iron pickaxe. Drag the object or Shift-click to include it in inventory.

Method 4 of 5: Making a diamond pickaxe

This is the best pick to have as it works the fastest and lasts longer.

1. Chop diamond ore with the iron pickaxe. (If you already have a diamond pickaxe, you can also cut diamond ore with it). If it is already diamond, you don't have to melt anything.
2. Go to your workbench or the schedule.
3. Place the sticks in the central box of the grid and the middle box of the bottom row.
4. Place the diamond ore in the three top compartments of the grid.
5. Create the diamond pickaxe. Drag the object or Shift-click to include it in inventory.

Method 5 of 5: Making a golden pickaxe

This is probably the least useful of all pickaxes; First of all, it is very difficult to gain weight and if you can finally make it, then you already have iron, which is much more useful anyway. If you still want one, try this method.

1. Chop out gold veins with an iron pickaxe. Melt the ore.
2. Go to the workbench or grate.
3. Place the sticks in the central box of the grid and the middle box of the bottom row.
4. Place the gold bars in the top row of the grid.
5. Create the golden pickaxe. To retrieve it, press Shift-click or drag the golden pickaxe to your inventory.

Tips

• You can find some pickaxes. For example, iron pickaxes can be found in treasure chests in fortresses, abandoned mine shafts or with the gunsmith in an NPC village.
