Do you have a calculator, but you don't know how to turn it off? Many simple calculators do not have an OFF button. Instead, they are designed to automatically turn themselves off after a few minutes of inactivity. If you want to turn off the calculator immediately, you may need to use a few key combinations.

Method 1 of 3: Ordinary calculators or with a solar cell

1. Wait for the calculator to turn off. Most calculators will turn themselves off after a few minutes of inactivity. If you don't need the device, just put it aside and it should turn off automatically after a few minutes.
2. Hold down a key combination. One of the following combinations may be able to turn off your calculator. Hold down the buttons as shown below:
   • 23
   • 56
   • ÷×
   • 9-
   • 1246
   • 1345
   • 123
3. Press and hold ON, C / CE or AC for a while while holding the above keys. With the correct key combination, you should be able to turn off your calculator this way.
4. Cover the solar cell. You may be able to force a solar cell calculator to go out by placing your thumb over the entire solar cell. As soon as the solar cell stops receiving light, the calculator should dim and then turn off.

Method 2 of 3: Citizen calculators

1. Wait for the calculator to turn off on its own. Citizen calculators turn off on their own after about 8 minutes with no user input. Your calculator should turn off by itself.
2. Use a key combination to force it to go out. This key combination will disable most Citizen brand calculators:
   • ON÷×%CheckCorrectCorrect

Method 3 of 3: Graphing calculators

1. Look for the Shift or 2ND button. Graphing calculators assign the OFF function as a secondary function to the ON or AC button. This means that to use the OFF function, you must use the Shift key or 2ND.
2. Press Shift or 2ND and then press ON or AC. This will turn off the graphing calculator.
