We all suffer from ugly bruises from time to time. It takes a while for a bruise to heal, but there are some ways to speed up the process and make the bruise less visible to others.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Medically recommended method for treating bruises

  1. Put ice on the bruise. Ice causes the blood vessels to contract, which prevents the bruise from getting bigger.
  2. Use an ice pack, a bag of ice, or frozen vegetables such as peas.
  3. Keep the bruise cold for at least an hour.
  4. After 24 hours, apply heat to the bruise. Heat improves blood circulation, allowing the blood that has collected under your skin to drain.
  5. Use a heat compress or a pitcher.
  6. Put something warm on the area for at least an hour.
  7. If possible, hold your part of the body with the bruise slightly higher. Raising your bruise can help drain blood from the injury.
  8. This is only recommended for arms or legs. Do not try to raise any part of your torso.
  9. Eat plenty of vitamin C and flavonoids. These vitamins ensure that your body regenerates collagen, which strengthens your blood vessels.
    • Foods high in vitamin C and flavonoids include: citrus fruits, leafy vegetables, bell peppers, pineapple and plums.
  10. Apply arnica and aloe vera to the wound. These vegetable gels help dilate your blood vessels and promote rapid recovery.
  11. You can find arnica and aloe vera gels at the drugstore.

Method 2 of 2: Hide your bruise

  1. Cover the bruise with clothing. This also helps to prevent further injury or pain.
  2. If the spot is on your ankle, wear long socks or pants that cover your ankles.
  3. If it's on your arm, wear a wristband or a long-sleeved shirt.
  4. Use makeup to hide the bruise. Your bruise may not be completely healed, but no one needs to know!
  5. Use a skin-colored cream so that the bruise looks the same as the rest of your skin. Put a little light, colorless powder on top.
  6. If you are new to liquid makeup, ask someone more experienced to help you.

Tips

  • Take it easy to avoid unnecessary pain! Use a muscle pain gel to soothe the pain.
  • Don't touch the bruise, it will get worse.
  • If the bruise doesn't go away after a week or two, or if you don't know how to get it, see your doctor. It could be a sign of a serious illness.
  • Use a concealer that is slightly lighter than your own skin tone. Make sure to cover the entire spot and the area around it so it doesn't look like you're trying to hide something.
  • If you moisturize the area well, it will heal faster.

Warnings

  • Avoid touching hard things with the bruise. That hurts and can make the bruise worse.
