This article will teach you how to post on Facebook, both via the mobile app and on the Facebook website itself. Messages can contain text, photos, videos and information about your location. You can post a message on your own page, but also on the page of a friend or a group that you belong to.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Post a mobile message

  1. Open Facebook. The Facebook app icon resembles a white "f" on a dark blue background. Facebook will open your News Feed if you are already logged in.
    • If you are not logged in yet, enter your email address (or phone number) and password and then press "Login".
  2. Go to the page where you want to post the message. Depending on where you want to create the message, this will vary:
    • "Your Page" - You can create a post for your page at the top of the News Feed.
    • "A friend's page" - Tap the search bar at the top of the screen, type a friend's name, tap his or her name, then tap his or her profile picture.
    • "A Group" - Press "☰", press "Groups", press the "Groups" tab, then your group.
  3. Press the message box. This window is at the top of the News Feed. If you post on a friend's page, it will be below the photo section at the top of their page. If you're posting in a group, the window will be just below the cover photo.
    • There will usually be a phrase such as "Write something" or "What are you doing" in the window.
  4. Upload a photo or video. Press "Photo / Video" near the center of the message screen, then select a photo or video to upload and press "Done". This will add the photo or video to your post.
    • You can upload multiple photos or videos at the same time.
    • Skip this step if you only want to post a message with text.
  5. Add text to your message. Tap the text field and then enter the text for your message.
    • You can also press the colored circle near the center of the screen to set a background for your message. You can only add color to messages with 130 characters or less.
  6. Press Add to your message in the center of the screen. This will display the following message options:
    • "Photo / Video" - Add more photos or videos.
    • "Check In" - Allows you to add an address or a location to your message.
    • "Feel / Activity / Sticker" - Allows you to add an emotion, an activity or an emoji.
    • "Tag People" - Allows you to add a person to this post. This will also place the message on their page.
  7. Select a message option to add more to the message. This is completely optional. If you don't want to add more to the post, go to the next step.
  8. Press Place in the top right corner of the screen. This will post your message and add it to the page you are currently viewing.

Method 2 of 2: Post to a desktop

  1. Open Facebook. Go to https://www.facebook.com/. If you're logged in, this will open the Facebook News Feed.
    • If you are not logged in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password. Do this at the top right of the page.
  2. Go to the page where you want to post the message. Depending on where you want to post the message, this will vary:
    • "Your Page" - You can create a post for your page at the top of the News Feed.
    • "A friend's page" - Click the search bar at the top of the screen, type a friend's name and click his or her profile picture.
    • "A Group" - Click "Groups" on the left side of the page, click the "Groups" tab, then click the group you want to open.
  3. Click on the message box. This window is at the top of the News Feed. When you post on a friend's or group's page, you will see the message box below the cover photo.
  4. Add text to your message. Type your content in the message box. You can also add a colored background by clicking one of the colors below the message box.
    • Colored backgrounds are only supported for messages of 130 characters or less.
  5. Add more content to your post. If you want to add more to your message, click one of the options below the message box:
    • "Photo / Video" - Allows you to select a photo or video from your computer and upload it to your post.
    • "Tag Friends" - Allows you to select and tag a friend or group of friends in the message. Tagged friends will see the message on their own pages.
    • "Check In" - Allows you to add an address to your message.
    • "Feel / Activity" - Allows you to add an emotion or activity to the message.
  6. click on Place. This blue button is in the lower right corner of the window.

  • Certain companies will reward you when you check in. For example, some restaurants will offer a free drink when you check in with them on their official Facebook page.
