The fastest way to open the Terminal in Ubuntu is to use one of the keyboard shortcuts. You can also find the Terminal with the Quick Locator, or add a shortcut to your Starter. In older versions of Ubuntu you can find the Terminal in the "Applications" folder.

Method 1 of 4: Using keyboard shortcuts

1. Press .Ctrl+Alt+T.. This will open the Terminal.
2. Press .Alt+F2and typ gnome terminal. This will also open the Terminal.
3. Press .⊞ Win+T.(only for Xubuntu). You can also open the Terminal in Xubuntu with this shortcut.
4. Set your own shortcut key combination. You can use the keyboard shortcut from Ctrl+Alt+T. turn into something else:
   • Click the "System Settings" button in the Starter.
   • Under the heading "Hardware", choose "Keyboard".
   • Click on the "Shortcuts" tab.
   • Click on the "Starters" category and then select "Launch Terminal".
   • Press your new keyboard shortcut.

Method 2 of 4: Using the Quick Locator

1. Click on the Quick Locator button or press.⊞ Win. The Quick Locator button is in the top left corner and has the Ubuntu logo.
   • If you get your super key of ⊞ Win changed to something else, press that new key.
2. Type terminal.
3. Press .↵ Enter.

Method 3 of 4: Create a shortcut in the Starter

1. Click on the button for the Quick Locator. This button can be found at the top of the Starter. It's the button with the Ubuntu logo on it.
2. Type terminal to search for the Terminal.
3. Drag the Terminal icon from the search results to the Launcher.
4. Click on the new Terminal icon to open the Terminal whenever you want.

Method 4 of 4: Using Ubuntu 10.04 and older

1. Click the "Applications" button. In older versions of Ubuntu, this button is located in the Starter.
2. Click on "Accessories". If you have Xubuntu, choose the "System" option instead.
3. Click on "Terminal".
