Skype is a free video and chat program that is easy to use. Creating an account can be tricky, read this article to help you with that.

To step

1. Go to Skype.com/uk to get started. At the top right of the screen is in blue "Register". Click on this.
2. Fill in your personal details. Don't worry, all information is confidential unless it is clearly stated that it is visible to third parties, or you give your explicit consent.
   • You also have the option to log in with your Facebook or Microsoft account. In that case, this information will be used to create your Skype account.
3. Enter your profile information. Enter your date of birth, gender, country, city, language and possibly your telephone number. The fields with an asterisk are mandatory. All other fields are optional.
   • Choose the right country. If you travel a lot, choose the country from which you will use Skype the most.
4. Indicate how often you plan to use Skype. Here you can choose whether you intend to use Skype for "personal" or "business" calls. This is an optional field.
5. Come up with a Skype name and Password. Note: you can no longer change your Skype name, so do not choose a strange name, because it will always stick to you.
   • Enter a password. The password must be at least 6 characters, including 1 number. When choosing a password, make sure that you will see: "Strength of the password: Good". "Moderate" is also allowed, but "Good" is much safer. If the password is "Weak" you will not be able to continue creating an account.
6. Complete the process. Tell Skype how you want to be reached. If you choose "Via SMS" they will send you an SMS with a text to confirm. By default, "Via e-mail" is selected. Copy the text into the text box and click "I agree - Continue" if you agree to the terms of use and privacy statement.
7. Ready! Now you come to your account page where you can download Skype software and find your friends. Let's start!
