If you have taken illegal drugs, you may want to get them out of your body quickly. For example, you may have a drug test at work, or you may want to quit drugs and get them out of your body as soon as possible. All kinds of drugs can work out your body in much the same way: drinking more water and eating healthy foods, taking detox drinks and exercising a lot to sweat the drugs out. Complete detoxing takes a while, so allow at least a week before the drugs are completely out of your system.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Drink water to get drugs out of your system

  1. Drink 2.5-3 liters of water per day. The best way to get drugs out of your system is to drink plenty of water. The water will dilute the concentration of the drug in your system. Frequent urination also helps get the drugs out of your system as quickly as possible.
    • With drugs that are stored in your fat cells (such as cocaine and THC from weed), drinking more water will have little effect.
    • Adult men should drink at least 4 liters of water per day, and adult women should drink at least 3 liters of water per day.
    • If you drink extra water to get drugs out of your system, drink half a liter a day extra.
  2. Drink tea or cranberry juice in addition to water. All teas are good detoxers, and cranberry juice makes you urinate more often. Drink 3-4 cups of tea or juice every day when trying to get drugs out of your system. You can take green, black, white, jasmine, or any other type of tea. The tea provides your body with antioxidants and electrolytes, and these substances increase your metabolism.
    • You can drink your green tea warm by infusing tea bags. You can also drink your tea cold by making iced tea.
    • If you drink your green tea hot, add a squeeze of lemon juice to your tea to improve the flavor.
  3. Avoid alcohol if you are trying to get drugs out of your system. Alcohol binds easily to cocaine and THC and ensures that these substances bind more easily to the fats in your body. When THC and cocaine are bound to the fats in your body, they are still difficult to get out of your system. Drinking alcohol, especially a lot of alcohol, only makes the problem worse.
    • Alcohol itself can have negative effects on your body and can also cause you to take even more of the drug you're trying to get out of your system.

Method 2 of 3: Sweat out the drugs

  1. Burn fat with low-intensity cardio. Certain drugs (especially cocaine and THC) get stuck in your body's fat cells. Burning fat therefore removes drugs from your system. Sweating is a great way to burn fat, and low-intensity cardio will make you sweat a lot. Burning fat and sweating heavily removes drugs from your system. Examples of low-intensity cardio and exercises that make you sweat a lot include:
    • Cycling or walking.
    • Running or jogging.
    • Jumping rope.
  2. Spend 20-30 minutes a day in a sauna to sweat out drugs. In a sauna you do not have to make any physical effort to sweat. A hot sauna is a good way to get your body to sweat. Sweating ensures that metabolites of the drugs are flushed out of your body. Saunas can often be found near swimming pools or gyms. Other ways to sweat more and flush waste from your body are:
    • Participate in Bikram Yoga.
    • Lie in the sun.
    • Be aware that sweating in a sauna only flushes a small fraction of the metabolites out of your body. Avoid the sauna if you have recently used drugs, the heat can be dangerous.
  3. Add 400 grams of magnesium sulfate to your bath water. Add magnesium sulfate to the water while you run your bath. Stay in the salt water for at least 15-20 minutes. The salts open your pores, which ensures that waste products can be pulled out of your body. You can get magnesium sulfate at any supermarket.
    • Magnesium sulfate therefore contains magnesium, an important mineral that can help remove waste products from your body.

Method 3 of 3: Adjust your diet for a faster metabolism

  1. Get rid of sugars and unhealthy fats from your diet. Your body has a tough job of getting the waste products of drugs (and the drugs themselves) out of your system. Sugars and unhealthy fats - such as trans and saturated fats - are also difficult to digest and take longer to process. If you eat a diet high in sugars and unhealthy fats, it will take relatively longer to get the drugs out of your system.
    • Large amounts of sugars and unhealthy fats are in things like soda, candy, processed foods and fast food.
    • Processed foods are high in sodium, which causes your body to store water. As your body stores more water, the drugs will be flushed out of your system more slowly.
  2. Eat vegetables and other high-fiber foods. Eating lots of vegetables and other healthy foods will replenish your depleted supply of vitamins and minerals. A healthy body will be better able to remove remnants of the drugs from the body. Fiber-rich food therefore boosts your metabolism and removes drugs from your body more quickly.
    • While this is not the best way to fool a urine test (it is better to drink detox drinks and water for this), it does help your body get fitter and eventually get more drug residues out of your system.
    • Other sources of fiber include oatmeal, lentils, black and lima beans, broccoli, and most grains.
  3. Eat more antioxidant-rich foods. Antioxidants provide a healthier body and help process and flush the drugs from your system. Foods rich in antioxidants are:
    • Berries, including blueberries, strawberries and raspberries.
    • Leafy green vegetables, including kale, wheatgrass and romaine lettuce

Tips

  • There is no set period of time for a particular drug to stay in your system. Everyone differs in the time it takes to metabolize drugs. How long the drug can be detected in your system depends on a number of factors, including the dose of the drug and how tolerant you are to the drug.
  • Drugs can be detected in your blood, urine and hair. You can remove traces of the drug from your blood just like you do from urine. Drugs can be detected in hair for months, so to pass a drug test you need to wash your hair as thoroughly as possible. A more extreme option is to shave completely bald.
  • THC from cannabis generally lingers in your system the longest. It can be detected in urine for up to 30 days and in blood for up to 2 weeks.
  • Drugs such as morphine and codeine stay in your body for a shorter time, they can be detected in urine for up to 1-3 days and in the blood for up to 6-12 hours.
  • Cocaine can be detected in urine for up to 3-4 days and in blood for 1-2 days.
  • Heroin can be detected in your urine for up to 3-4 days and in your blood for up to 12 hours.

Warnings

  • Avoid "Cleanse Drinks", even if you want to get the drugs out of your system right away. The effect of these drinks has often been debunked by medical science.
  • Many types of drugs - especially opiates - are harmful to your body and can be life-threatening. If you are addicted to these drugs, take steps to kick the habit.
