This wikiHow teaches you how to update Adobe Flash Player on Windows, on a Mac, or on Linux. Although Adobe Flash Player will usually update itself automatically if you installed the program with the default settings, you can tell the program to check for an update and install it when available.

To step

Method 1 of 3: In Windows

1. Open Start . Click on the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen.
2. Open the Control Panel. Type control panel and click on the blue icon of Control panel at the top of the Start menu.
3. Click the "View with" drop-down menu. You can find it in the top right corner of the Control Panel window. A drop-down menu will appear.
4. click on Large icons. You can find this option in the drop-down menu.
5. click on Flash Player (32-bit). This is an icon of a white "f" on a brown reddish brown background in the center of the window. Clicking on it will open a Flash Player window.
   • You may have to wait up to 30 seconds for this option to appear in the Control Panel window.
6. Click on the tab Updates. You can find this at the top of the window.
7. Check the current version number. To the right of the heading "PPAPI Plug-In Version" you should see a number; that number is the version of Flash Player you are using.
   • As of October 2018, 31.0.0.122 is the most recent version of Adobe Flash.
8. click on Check Now or "Check now." You can find this on the left side of the window. Then the version page of Adobe Flash Player will open in the default browser of your computer; you should see a table with different browsers and version numbers.
9. Check the version number for your browser. Find the name of your web browser in the "Browser" column of the table, then look at the version number to the right of the browser name. If the version number is higher than the number you found in the Flash Player menu, you can proceed with updating Flash Player.
   • If the number next to your browser name is the same as the one in the Flash Player menu, then Flash Player does not need to be updated.
   • If your Flash Player is out of date, continue with the next step.
10. click on the link Player Download Center. This should be in the second paragraph above the table displayed on your computer (or go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/).
11. Uncheck all the boxes in the "Optional Offers" column.
12. click on Install now in the bottom right corner.
13. Double-click the downloaded Flash Player installation file.
14. Follow the installation instructions on the screen. Restart your browser when prompted.

Method 2 of 3: On a Mac

1. Open the Apple menu . Click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
2. click on System Preferences .... You can find this in the drop-down menu. The System Preferences window opens.
3. click on Flash Player. You'll see this option in the System Preferences window. The Flash Player window opens.
4. click on Updates. This is a tab at the top of the Flash Player window.
5. View the current version number. To the right of the heading "PPAPI Plug-In Version" you should see a number; that number is the version of Flash Player you are using.
   • As of October 2018, 31.0.0.122 is the most recent version of Adobe Flash.
6. click on Check Now or "Check now." You can find this on the left side of the window. Then the version page of Adobe Flash Player will open in the default browser of your Mac; you should see a table with different browsers and version numbers.
7. Check the version number for your browser. Find the name of your web browser in the "Browser" column of the table, then look at the version number to the right of the browser name. If the version number is higher than the number you found in the Flash Player menu, you can proceed with updating Flash Player.
   • If the number next to your browser name is the same as the one in the Flash Player menu, then Flash Player does not need to be updated.
   • If you have determined that the latest version of Adobe Flash is higher than your current version of Flash Player, proceed to the next step.
8. click on the link Player Download Center. This should be in the second paragraph above the table that should be displayed on your computer (or go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/).
9. Uncheck all the boxes in the "Optional Offers" column.
10. click on Install now in the bottom right corner.
11. Double-click the downloaded Flash Player installation file.
12. Double-click the Flash Player icon in the window that opens.
13. Follow the installation instructions on the screen. Restart your browser when prompted.

Method 3 of 3: In Linux

1. Understand how to install the Flash Player on Linux. While it is usually best to check the Flash Player version before attempting to update it on Windows or a Mac, the fastest and easiest way to update Flash Player on Linux is to force a new Flash Player installation. using the Terminal.
2. Open the Terminal. Click or double-click the Terminal app icon, which resembles a black box with a white "> _" in most versions of Linux.
   • You can also press Alt+Ctrl+T. to start the Terminal.
3. Enter the update command. Type the following command and press ↵ Enter:

   sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

4. Enter your password when prompted. Type in the password you use to log into your account and press ↵ Enter.
   • You don't see the characters appear in the Terminal as you type.
5. Confirm the installation when prompted. Type Y and press ↵ Enter. Then the most recent version of Flash Player will be installed, over your current installation.
6. Wait for the installation to complete. When you see your username reappear at the bottom of the Terminal window, Flash Player has been successfully updated.
   • If no update was available, you already have the same version of Flash Player installed.

Tips

• You must be logged in as an administrator or user with software installation permissions to update Adobe Flash on your computer.

Warnings

• Some browsers do not support Adobe Flash Player, so you may need to enable Flash Player before using it.
