So the unthinkable has happened - you've been told to have a drug test in weeks, days, or hours, and you squeeze your joint while reading the news. Don't panic - depending on the test and the type of drugs in your body, there may be a home remedy that will significantly increase your chances of passing the test.

Part 1 of 2: Face your chances before trying a home remedy

  1. Know the facts about drug testing. Drug testing is often a mandatory part of the recruitment process. In the United States, certain government organizations are required by law to use drug tests, while private companies have more freedom in using these tests. Drug tests look for the presence of the drug or metabolites, chemicals that the body produces when the drug is used. Usually, drug tests look for these chemicals in your urine, blood or other body fluid and / or hair.
    • There are several tests available to employers that allow them to choose how careful the screening should be by opting for a thorough or non-thorough test. In the United States, the standard drug test is the one required by the SAMHSA for certain federal agencies. This test looks for five common drugs:
      • Amphetamines (methamphetamine, amphetamines, ecstasy (MDMA))
      • Cocaine (powder and forms of "crack")
      • THC (marijuana, hash, edible cannabis products)
      • Opiates (heroin, opium, codeine, morphine)
      • Phencyclidine (PCP, angel dust)
    • However, employers often screen for other drugs as well. Drug testing can be costly for employers - the more drugs screened, the more expensive the test. A company that recruits many people and tests all possible employers is unlikely to opt for extensive tests, as these can cost more than $ 100 per person.
    • The best way to increase your chances of passing a drug test is to abstain from drugs for as long as possible.
  2. Know the law. Ironically, the law sometimes protects alcohol and drug users when applying for jobs.
    • For example, in some countries it may be illegal for an employer to test a prospective employee without first offering a conditional offer of employment. This means that no drug test can be required if there is no authentic employment proposal on the table. This lowers the likelihood that you will have to pass a test for a job that you have applied for, as not every applicant is offered a job. In addition, in some countries it may be illegal for employers to refuse a job offer because of poor results on an alcohol or drug test.
    • In addition, in some countries it may be illegal to discriminate against future employees on the basis of past drug problems. The good news is that in that case they can't use a drug problem from the past against you. However, they may decline your application if they believe you are still using drugs.
  3. Know the possible means of detection for the drugs you are using. Several test methods are available to employers. The most common are hair, blood, and urine tests. Each depends on a different time span in which the presence of drugs can be detected. See the table below:

Part 2 of 2: Trying home remedies

Remedies for urine tests

  1. Let your friends help you a little. Unless you are forced by a court, a regular employer is not allowed to stand by while you produce urine samples. This gives you the opportunity to take advantage of the safest and most effective way to pass a drug test: use the urine of a friend who is not on drugs.
    • Make sure it is relatively fresh. If you won't be using it within days of collection, keep it in the refrigerator.
    • Make sure to bring the sample to body temperature before dispensing. The best way to do this is to wear it against your skin for several hours before dispensing. Try to tape a bag to your thigh for easy access when you need to produce the sample ...
    • If you're a woman, you can try holding a tied-up condom full of pure urine in your vagina and then discreetly puncturing it with a needle when you need to deliver the sample.
  2. Use a synthetic urine substitute. These are available for purchase online and come in a variety of forms, both powdered and liquid. These substitutes are manufactured in a laboratory. They are usually used by heating them up and keeping them in a small bottle and then dispensing them in place of your own urine.
    • These can be detected if tested by the lab, so use them with caution.
  3. Drink lots of water. A frequently reported home remedy is to drink massive amounts of water a few days before or the day of the test, as this can clear traces of the drug from the urinary tract. However, this is unlikely - it is much more likely that the chemicals in your urine will just be diluted. However, this method can provide a small advantage, as most tests require minimal concentrations to give a positive result.
    • Note that some tests today focus on the creatine metabolites in your urine. If the concentration of this naturally occurring metabolite is not high enough, you will be suspected of diluting your urine. To combat this, you can consume a lot of red meat or creatine powder, starting 3 days before the test. This will increase creatine levels so that you are unlikely to be caught diluting your urine.
    • Sometimes urine tests will even consider the color of your urine. A very light urine color indicates a possible dilution attempt, while a more yellowish color is considered normal. Consider taking 50-100 mg of vitamin B2 or B12 complex an hour or two before the test to give your urine a more yellowish color.
    • Do not exaggerate. Drinking really massive amounts of water can lead to water intoxication, a potentially deadly condition. Trust your body - if it feels uncomfortable, stop drinking.
  4. Diet and exercise. If the drug you are using is marijuana and you are overweight, losing fat can lead to better test results. The metabolites of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, are stored in your fat cells. Therefore, people with a lot of body fat have a longer detection period for marijuana. The more body fat, the longer the marijuana can be found in your body. Reducing your fat through diet and exercise can be of long-term benefit when you have to undergo a drug test.
    • When a test is for very soon, don't try to improve your odds by starving yourself. Weight loss takes time and the amount of body fat you need to lose to increase your chances of successfully passing a drug test is nearly impossible to achieve in one or two weeks. You will likely just make yourself miserable without effectively improving your odds.
  5. Try a diuretic such as cranberry juice. Diuretics are drugs that stimulate you to urinate. Some sources suggest that diuretics help rid your body of the metabolites of drugs. However, this method is not supported by scientific findings. Claims that cranberry juice can purify your body are unfounded.
    • One use of diuretics that is a little better involves the combination with the aforementioned dilution method to stimulate large urine output.
    • Other common diuretics include coffee, herbal teas, beer, and iced tea.
  6. Know which remedies won't work. Many home remedies simply don't work, even though they are labeled as miraculous. These methods have no proven effect on your test results. Don't waste your time or money on it.
    • Taking nicotinic acid. There is no scientific evidence that nicotinic acid can help pass a urine or blood test. In addition, high doses of nicotinic acid can lead to itchy skin reactions (and in very large amounts to liver damage).
    • Add vinegar, ammonia, or bleach to your urine. These chemicals are acids and bases and thus will change the pH of your urine, but it is not certain that they will remove the metabolites of drugs. In addition, the lab may find that you have tampered with the test due to the smell, appearance, and / or chemical makeup of your urine.
      • Never drink bleach. It is poisonous and can be fatal.
    • Add visine to your urine. Due to the presence of Visine, false negative results were only obtained for some THC metabolites. At a low concentration of Visine, these false negative results for cannabinoids were attributed to the benzalkonium chloride ingredient of Visine. The added Visine was not detectable by routine urinalysis and had no effect on the activity of the glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase drug composition used in EMIT-d.a.u. analysis. In addition, gas chromatography / mass spectrometry showed no chemical adaptation or reduction of 9-cabroxy-THX in Visine-enriched urine samples. However, Visin did increase the adhesion of 9-carboxy-THC to the glass borosilicate sample containers. Results from ultra-filtration studies with Visine indicate reduced availability of 9-carboxy-THC in antibody-based assays.
    • Take Canadian turmeric. Canadian turmeric is an herb whose root is used to make herbal remedies. It does not affect a urine test. This misconception comes from the novel "Stringtown on the Pike" by pharmacist John Uri Lloyd, in which the plant is used to bypass a test for the poison strychnine.
    • Taking pectin. Pectin is a natural chemical found in plants and often used in jam and jelly making. Anecdotal accounts claim that pectin coats the walls of either the stomach or bladder, holding back the metabolites of drugs. None of these claims are supported by scientific evidence.
    • Add salt to your urine. Salt will not affect the metabolite levels of drugs in your urine. This method also has important flaws, such as the sinking of the salt to the bottom of the sample, which can be easily noticed. Use your common sense and don't ruin your chances by sprinkling salt into your steel.

Remedies for blood tests

  1. Know the scope of blood tests. Blood tests are generally very short in scope, as these tests usually look for the presence of the drug itself rather than any of its metabolites. These tests are often performed shortly after an accident to determine whether you were under the influence of some substance.
    • Blood tests done right after an accident will almost always also focus on alcohol, which can usually only be detected by a blood test for a day or so.
    • Therefore, the best and easiest way to pass a blood test is simply not to use alcohol or drugs one or two days before the test. For many drugs, this will be about the time it takes to get out of your body.
    • Blood tests are the most expensive form of drug testing. For this reason, and because of the short detection period of this method, it is unlikely that you will have to undergo one as part of a recruitment process.
  2. Know that blood tests are usually accompanied by urine tests. The blood test is used to determine alcohol or drug use around the time of the test, while the urine test is used to look for drug use prior to the accident. See above for urine test remedies.
  3. Know the difference between the different ways of ingestion. Drugs can sometimes be taken in different ways, which can affect the detectable levels of the drug in the blood. For example, THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, peaks about an hour after smoking marijuana. However, when you eat the plant, there is a much lower and more gradual curve for THC levels in your blood, peaking about four hours after ingestion.
    • In general, ingestion methods that get you high faster, such as sniffing, smoking, and injecting, have higher and earlier spikes in blood concentration than "slower" methods such as oral ingestion.
    • By being aware of this, you can plan your drug use so that you avoid slower intake methods during the days before the test.
  4. Consider a commercial remedy, but know the risks involved. There are a lot of herbal supplements available online that claim to "detoxify" the blood, increasing your chances of passing a test. These claims are not based on any scientific evidence. Be very skeptical when considering these options.
    • Home-made combinations of herbs face the same problems - none of them are based on scientific evidence. In addition, they can be impure or poorly dosed because the quality has not been tested. Be very careful with these so-called "home remedies."

Remedies for hair testing

  1. Know the scope of hair testing. Hair tests generally have the longest detection period of all test methods. For most common drugs, hair tests can detect use up to 90 days before, depending on how often the drug was used.
    • However, because hair tests look for the presence of drug metabolites in the area of hair just above the skull, there is a period of several days after drug intake when the metabolites are still under the skin of the skull and therefore not above the skull can be noticed. As a result, hair tests sometimes fail to detect drug use from the last 5-7 days.
  2. Consider getting your hair cut. For hair testing, a small amount (2-4 cm) of hair is usually cut away from behind or to the side of your head, as close to the root as possible. This hair length checks for use during the last 90 days. If your hair is shorter than this, your swatch will theoretically only allow for a shorter detection period.
    • However, this can also work against you. If your hair is too short, a testing facility can take a sample from elsewhere on your body (armpit, chest hair, etc.). Because body hair grows slower than scalp hair, a sample of 2-4 cm can allow a longer detection period than a sample of your head.
  3. Try a questionable hair treatment. Please note that most test organs do not check for hair growth products because there are "no hair growth products that can affect the results of a hair test." So this home remedy is unlikely to be detected, but there is next to no evidence that it will work effectively.
    • Buy a shampoo treatment. There is a large selection of hair treatments online that claim to improve the chances of passing a hair test. These can be very expensive and none have been scientifically proven yet. If you want to try one out, do it with a money-back guarantee.
    • Try an impromptu wash for your hair. If you want to try out a common home recipe for your hair, check out our guide to passing a hair test. However, all home remedies for passing a hair test are rumored. None have been shown to be effective in a scientifically controlled environment.

Tips

  • Use 3 tablespoons of sodium carbonate in a glass of water. It tastes bad, but it will help cleanse your body faster.
  • Obviously, the best way to pass a drug test is to simply not take any drugs long before the recruitment process.
  • Very few (if any) home remedies have been scientifically proven. Don't get emotionally drawn into believing that any of the above remedies will work.

Warnings

  • Do not try any remedy that involves taking anything dangerous. For example, ingesting cleaning products can be fatal. The only job you qualify for is to serve as food for the maggots.
  • Trying to trick a drug test can be a crime with social or criminal consequences, depending on where you live. Consult your local laws if you are unsure.
