Method 1 of 3: Windows XP

1. 1 Open the My Computer window.
2. 2 Go to your local drive C: (or the disk where the operating system is installed)
3. 3 Open the Windows / System32 / drivers / etc folder. In the etc folder, find the hosts file.
4. 4 Open this file with notepad.
5. 5 At the bottom of the file, add the following line:
6. 6 127.0.0.1 www.abcd.com
   • where www.abcd.com is the site to be blocked.
7. 7 Save the file.

Method 2 of 3: Windows Vista / 7

1. 1 Click Start - Control Panel - User Accounts - Parental Controls. If prompted, enter the administrator password.
2. 2 Select the account for which you want to set up parental controls.
3. 3 In the window that opens, check "Enable using current settings."
4. 4 Click Windows Vista Web Filter.
5. 5 Click Block some websites or content.
6. 6 Click Edit Allowed and Denied Web Sites.
7. 7 In the "Web site address" field, enter the address of the site to which you want to allow or deny access, and click "Allow" or "Block".

Method 3 of 3: Mac OS X

1. 1 Open system preferences. In the Dock, find the gear-shaped icon. Click on it and open system preferences.
2. 2 Click Parental Controls. If you have multiple accounts, then select the account for which you want to set up parental controls. Enter a password if required.
3. 3 Click “Enable Parental Controls”. This will open the parental control settings menu for the Safari browser and other programs.
4. 4 Click on the "Content" tab. Next, select the type of restriction. Select Try To Limit Access To Adult Websites Automatically if you want Safari to automatically block access to pornographic or other adult sites. If you want to create a list of allowed sites, select the "Allow Access To Only These Websites" option. Enter the addresses of the sites you allow visiting. When you are done with the settings, close the Parental Controls / System Settings window and your settings will be automatically saved. Now the Safari browser will only open the sites you specified.
