Push notifications allow apps like Email to notify you when new information, such as an email, has arrived, instead of waiting for you to check it yourself. This also applies to social apps like Facebook and Twitter.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Enable Push Notifications for Apps

  1. 1 Tap the Settings icon on your device's Home page to launch the settings application.
  2. 2 Now tap on "Notifications".
    • In iOS 7, this panel is called Action Center.
  3. 3 Tap the app for which you would like to enable Push notifications and enable all available buttons. You can also enable Banners and Alerts from this app.

Method 2 of 2: Enable Email Push Notifications

  1. 1 Launch the Settings app by touching the icon on the Home page of your device.
  2. 2 Tap "Mail, Addresses, Calendars".
  3. 3 Tap Download Data.
  4. 4 Turn on Push.

Tips

  • If your email account does not support Push, you can configure it to check for mail more often from the Data Download menu.

Warnings

  • Some apps are incompatible with Push notifications, so they won't appear in Notifications or alert you when there are new messages or events.
