1 Wash the tomatoes in running water.
  • 2 Pat dry with a towel. If the surface of the tomato is damp, it may slip.
  • 3 Remove the stem from the top of the tomato.
  • 4 Place the tomato, top up, on a cutting board. If you are removing the core from a pointed tomato, you can lay it on its side and core it at an angle.
  • 5 Insert a very sharp paring knife into the top of the tomato. Insert the tip of the knife at an angle of approximately 25 degrees from the vertical axis. Press in the knife about 1.3-2.5 cm at this angle.
    • Stop moving the knife if you think the tip is in the center of the tomato.
  • 6 Hold the tomato firmly and core it in a circle, turning the fruit. When you get to where you started, you can take out the core and discard it.
  • Method 2 of 2: Cored and Seed Tomatoes

    1. 1 Place the washed tomato on a cutting board. Lay it stem up.
    2. 2 Cut the tomato in half vertically. Hold the tomato halves and cut into 4 pieces.
    3. 3 Place 4 slices on a cutting board.
    4. 4 Core the tomato with a knife from top to bottom. Cut the core together with the seeds.
    5. 5 Repeat with the remaining pieces. Throw away the seeds and core. Chop the peeled tomato as desired.
