If you are tired of expensive, fragile flowerpots that tip over in high winds and ice in freezing temperatures, then consider making your own homemade concrete flowerpots. After you come up with the shape, you can make as many of them as you like. These sturdy flowerpots are inexpensive and will last for many years.

Steps

  1. 1 Make a shape for your cement flowerpot. Use two identical containers, only one should be slightly larger than the other. For example, you can use two bowls or two buckets, only the smaller container should be at least 2.5 centimeters smaller than the larger one. Also, you can create square or rectangular plywood containers.
  2. 2 Coat the inside of the outer container and the outside of the inner with vegetable oil or nonstick cooking spray. Use a wax paste for the wooden container.
  3. 3 Cut two or three 2.5-centimeter pieces from the plastic pipe. The pieces that will be used to create the drainage holes should be five centimeters long.
  4. 4 Wear gloves to protect your hands from the concrete. Mix a batch of quick-setting concrete according to the instructions. Add a specific color as needed.
  5. 5 Pour 5 centimeters of concrete into a large container. Push the pieces of pipe into the concrete, 7.5 to 10 centimeters apart. Smooth the concrete around the pipes, but do not cover them as they must be open for you to make the drain holes.
  6. 6 Carefully place the smaller container on top of the concrete in the center of the larger one. Press it into the concrete until the bottom of the container rests against the surface of the pipe.
  7. 7 Finish off by adding concrete mixture to the spaces between the containers. Tap the container lightly on a hard surface to adjust the concrete level, then add more to fill the container. Smooth out the concrete with a trowel.
  8. 8 Leave the concrete for at least 24 hours to harden, then remove the smaller container to reveal your concrete pot. Sprinkle it lightly with cold water using a spray bottle. Do not remove large containers.
  9. 9 Cover the concrete pot with a large piece of plastic and let it harden for a week. Spray the concrete to keep it moist.
  10. 10 Tap the bottom of your flowerpot with your palm to slide it out of the container, and then slide it out of the container.
  11. 11 Clear the concrete mix from the containers. You can use them to make more concrete flowerpots like this.
  12. 12 Ready.
