Method 1 of 3: Finding the Right Vehicle

1. 1 Answer the following questions:
   • For how long do you need a truck?
   • What will you be transporting?
   • How much does the load weigh?
   • How much space is required for the cargo to fit in? (in square meters)
   • What are the dimensions of the largest item? (you need to make sure your surfboards will fit in your truck / van)
2. 2 Call at least 2 rental companies for a quote.
   • Ask about:
     
     
     • permissible distance of transportation (in km)
     • capacity (kg, sq.m)
     • truck dimensions
     • lease duration (exact time of return)
       
       
3. 3 Make sure that you are allowed to drive this vehicle, if not, then choose another type of vehicle or ask someone else to drive (you need to find out this before you rent a car).

Method 2 of 3: Renting a car

1. 1 Call and specify the place where you will pick up the car, the day before and directly on the day of picking up the car.
2. 2 Have someone take you to the pick-up location and wait while you are sure the vehicle is in place and ready for use.
3. 3 Read the contract carefully and check the car in the presence of an employee before leaving the rental office.
4. 4 Make sure you pick up the car you want.

Method 3 of 3: Returning the vehicle

1. 1 Make sure all the terms of the contract have been met (e.g. fuel is at the correct level, truck is clean, etc.)etc.)

Tips

• Remember the starting fuel level and mileage. If you determine the fuel consumption (the company can also provide you with approximate data), then it will be easier for you to calculate how much money you will need to spend in order to refuel the car to the desired level by the time you return.
• Find out if it is possible to return the car after the rental office closes.
• Check your loading / unloading plan before proceeding.
• If you need help loading / unloading, then before proceeding, contact your friends and ask them for help.
• Ask if there are any new trucks / vans available so you don't come across a 15-year-old wreck.
• Find out where the place where you will need to return the vehicle is.
• Please note that some companies provide services that make this process easier for you, just call ahead.

Warnings

• You should definitely read the contract and check the condition of the car before you leave the rental office.
• Confirm the location and time of the car return.
• Make sure you pick up the exact car you want.
• Check the original mileage and excess mileage surcharges as you will be charged extra for this.
