This article shows you how to reset a computer's keyboard on Windows and Mac. You can do this by restoring your keyboard's default settings. In addition, you can also change the keyboard language setting if the keyboard is incompatible with some characters or symbols.

Steps

Method 1 of 5: On Windows

1. 

   Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen.

   Release your hand from the power button when asked to enter the code. When your Mac asks you to enter your connection code, you can release your hand from the power button.
   • If you're not asked for a connection code and the keyboard automatically connects, you can release your hand from the power button and skip to the next step.

    Enter the connection code. Type in the keypad code, then press ⏎ Return. This will connect the newly re-established keyboard to your Mac. advertisement

Advice

• If your keyboard uses batteries, you'd better use one recommended by the manufacturer.

Warning

• A keyboard reset may fix the keyboard's errors, but at the same time clear all previous custom settings.
