This wikiHow article shows you how to use the Command Prompt to open Task Manager on a Windows computer.

Steps

Advice

• An easier way to open Task Manager is to press a key combination Ctrl+⇧ Shift+Esc.
• After opening the Command Prompt, you can run this command on any Windows computer to open the Task Manager, though you may need to type taskmgr.exe on Windows XP.
• Usually you can open Command Prompt on a Windows computer by typing cmd Go to the Run app, or type command prompt Go to the Start search bar, then click the Command Prompt icon.

Warning

• Although you don't have to have administrator rights on your computer to run this command, some networked computers may restrict access to the Command Prompt.
