This article will guide you on how to transfer contacts from old iPhone to new device.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Use iCloud

1. 

   Open your old iPhone's Settings app with the gray gear icon (⚙️) normally visible on the home screen.
   • Both iPhones must be connected to a Wi-Fi network. To connect, you touch WIFI near the top of the Settings menu, push the slider WIFI position to "On" (green), and select a network from the list directly below "Choose a network ...".
   • Enter your password when prompted.

   Tap on Apple ID. It's the section at the top of the menu that contains your name and photo (if added).
   • If not logged in, you touch Sign in to (Your Device) (Sign in to (Your Device)), enter your Apple ID and password, then select Sign In (Log in).
   • If you're on an older version of iOS, you don't need to do this step.

   Touch icloud in the second part of the menu.

   Push the "Contacts" slider to the "On" position. The slider is above the "APPS USING ICLOUD" (Apps that use iCloud) and will turn green.

   Scroll down and touch iCloud Backup (ICloud Backup) is located near the "APPS USING ICLOUD" section.
   • If the slider is not already green, push "iCloud Backup" to the "On" position.

   Touch Back Up Now (Back up now). This will back up the old iPhone's contacts to iCloud.

   Open your new iPhone's Settings app with a gray gear icon (⚙️) and usually show up on the home screen.

   Tap on Apple ID. It's the section at the top of the menu that contains your name and photo (if added).
   • If not logged in, you touch Sign in to (Your Device) (Sign in to (Your Device)), enter your Apple ID and password, then select Sign In (Log in).
   • If you're on an older version of iOS, you don't need to do this step.

   Touch icloud in the second part of the menu.

    Push the "Contacts" slider to the "On" position near the top of the "APPS USING ICLOUD" section.

    Press the Home button. It's the round button on the front of the iPhone, below the screen.

    Open Contacts. It's a gray app with gray human silhouettes and colored tags on the right edge.

    Swipe down below the screen and touch and hold. From the center of the screen, swipe down slowly and hold until you see a spinning "refresh" icon above the list of names, then remove your hand. Now, contacts from old iPhone have shown up on new iPhone. advertisement

Method 2 of 3: Use iTunes backup

1. 

   Open iTunes on your computer. You can transfer contacts from old iPhone to new one using iTunes or iCloud. You should use iTunes because the process is faster than transferring data using iCloud backup.

2. 

   Connect old iPhone to computer using USB. You will see the information displayed in the row of buttons above the iTunes window.

3. 

   Select your iPhone in iTunes. This will open the Summary page.

4. 

   Select "This computer" and click "Back Up Now" (Back up now). This will create a backup of your old iPhone and save it to your computer. The backup creation will take a few minutes to complete.

5. 

   Start the setup process on your new iPhone. Once the backup is complete, you can start setting up your new iPhone. Turn on your phone and follow the Setup Assistant instructions to set up the new device. Remember to sign in with the Apple ID used on the old iPhone.

   Select "Backup from iTunes" when asked if you want to restore the backup. You will be asked to connect your new iPhone to your computer to download the backup from iTunes.

   Wait for the backup to load. This will take a few minutes because the data is being copied from the computer to the new iPhone. Once the backup restore is complete, your new iPhone will have all the contacts from the old device. advertisement

Method 3 of 3: Share contacts with others

1. 

   Open the Contacts app on your iPhone. You can also open the Phone app and select the "Contacts" tab.

2. 

   Tap the contact you want to send to someone. You can send contact information to any contact in the list.

   Touch Share Contact (Share Contacts) to open the "Share" menu.

4. 

   Select the application you want to use to share. This will open the app with the contacts file attached. You can send contact information using the Messages, Mail, and other messaging apps.

5. 

   Enter the name of the person you want to share contact information with. Your contact information will be sent to your recipient in VCF format. If the recipient opens the message on the iPhone, tapping the VCF file will upload the contact information to their Contacts. advertisement
