There is nothing more frustrating than waking up with a huge pimple on your face. You can frantically wash your face, apply copious amounts of acne cream, cover or try to hide the pimple, but in the end the goal remains the same: you want to get rid of it! There is one more treatment you may not have heard of. The next time a flashy pimple appears on your face, smear a little aloe vera gel on it and you will see the pimple disappear.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Wash your face

  1. Try a product that works against acne on your face. Before applying aloe to your pimple or pimples, it is important to cleanse your face. Regardless of your skin type, washing your face will remove all makeup, dirt, and dead skin cells from your skin surface. This will stop new pimples from appearing and spreading. If you have a favorite product to wash your face with, stick with it. If not, you can go to a pharmacy and look for a product that is suitable for skin if you have acne.
  2. Wash your face with warm water. Rub the product to wash your face with your fingertips on your skin in circular motions. Warm water can be quite harsh and drying on your skin, so make sure you have water that is at a pleasant lukewarm temperature. After treating every inch of your face, especially the acne-prone areas, rinse your face thoroughly.
  3. Let your face air dry. Towels are often covered in bacteria, which is why you should avoid them after cleaning your face. Try to let the excess water drip into the sink and let your damp face air dry. It will last longer, but sensitive acne-prone skin will thank you.
    • If you don't have a lot of time and if air drying is really not an option, you can pat your face dry with a clean towel. Dabbing is the appropriate technique, as rubbing your face with a towel can irritate your skin.

Part 2 of 2: Using aloe vera gel

  1. Apply the gel directly to imperfections. It is particularly important to buy pure aloe vera gel, so look for a bottle that clearly says "pure". With clean hands, apply a little aloe vera gel directly to the pimple. If the pimple has spread, you can smear a little gel on the affected part of your face. Be careful not to touch your face while it dries.
    • Aloe vera gel helps control existing blemishes and spreads, but it will not stop new ones. Use it on blemishes that appear, but wash your face regularly so you can avoid them in the first place!
    • Because aloe vera gel is soothing, anti-redness and inflammation, it is effective for cystic acne and any acne associated with swelling and redness.
    • Even if you are prone to acne scars, aloe vera gel will come in handy. It can stimulate the healing process by blocking bacteria, reducing the risk of acne scarring.
  2. Leave the gel on your skin. This is a perfect thing to do before going to bed so that the aloe vera gel can soak into your skin overnight. However, aloe vera gel is transparent, so you can also use it during the day. Make sure to leave the gel on your skin for at least five minutes or until your skin dries completely before washing it off. Apply makeup or other moisturisers on top of the gel.
    • Aloe vera has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, so it will protect your skin while you sleep.
  3. Wash off the aloe vera gel. Again, use lukewarm water to rinse your skin and let your face air dry. The aloe vera gel should have reduced the inflammation and redness of the pimple, making it less noticeable. If your pimple has been punctured or bled before, the aloe vera gel will help your skin regenerate and heal.
    • Apply aloe vera gel to your pimples as often as you want. It will give the most benefits when applied right after a shower or after washing your face.

Tips

  • Remember, aloe vera gel is an option to combat swelling, redness, and possible acne scarring. If you have frustrating and persistent acne, you can make an appointment with a dermatologist to talk about more invasive treatment or prescription medication.
  • Aloe vera gel works best in combination with other acne treatments. To get the maximum benefits, combine it with a regular face wash product and a topical cream specifically targeting acne.
