This article will teach you how to search for results on a specific website using Google. You can use this feature to view a list of all search results pertaining only to the website in question, or - if you're using Google Chrome - you can also search directly on certain sites that have built-in search capabilities.
To step
Method 1 of 2: With Google
- Open Google. Go to https://www.google.com/ in an internet browser of your choice.
- Click on the search bar. This is in the middle of the page.
- Indicate that you want to search for a specific site. Type site: in the search bar.
- Type the address of your site without the "www" part. This should immediately follow the tag site: without a space in between.
- For example, to search Facebook, type site: facebook.com.
- Press the spacebar. This places a space between the address of the website and what you type next.
- Enter a search term or phrase. This can be anything you want to search for within the site.
- For example, to search for "puppies for sale" within Facebook, your entire sentence should sound like this: site: facebook.com puppies for sale.
- Press ↵ Enter. This will perform your search; when the search results page loads, you should only see the search results that match your query and are on the website you specified.
Method 2 of 2: With Google Chrome
- Open Google Chrome Click on the address bar. This is the text field at the top of the browser window.
- If there is text in the address bar, delete it before continuing.
- Type the address of a website. This must be the address you want to search for. Make sure to include the "www" portion of the website here.
- For example, to search Facebook, type www.facebook.com.
- Find the message "Press Tab to Search". On the far right of the address bar, you should be a message encouraging you to click the Tab ↹button to search your website.
- If you do not see this message, you cannot use the Google Chrome address bar to search within the site. You can still use Google to search within a site.
- Press on the Tab ↹-test. When you see the message "Press Tab to Search", press the Tab ↹button to open a search bar that allows you to search within the indicated website.
- Enter your search term or phrase. This can be anything you want to search for within the website.
- Press ↵ Enter. This will display the search query for your term or phrase within the specified website and allow you to view the search results if necessary.
Tips
- You can use Google in any internet browser.
Warnings
- The Chrome method does not work for all sites.
