This wikiHow teaches you how to create an email account for Microsoft Outlook. You can do this from the Outlook website, but not with the mobile app.

To step

  1. Open the Outlook website. Go to https://www.outlook.com/. The login page opens.
  2. Wait for the new tab to load. Once it loads, click on Create Free Account. You will find this option in a blue box in the middle, left of the screen.
  3. Enter your desired email address. This should be something unique that no other Outlook user already has.
  4. Select @ outlook.com to change the domain name.
    • This can be both Outlook as Hotmail to be.
  5. Enter your desired password. Make the password creative and something that is difficult to guess. Your password must contain two of the following:
    • 8 characters
    • Capital letters
    • Lowercase
    • Numbers
    • Symbols
  6. Check the small box if you want to receive promotional emails from Microsoft. If you do not want to receive advertising, uncheck the box.
  7. Enter your first and last name in the fields shown. Both are necessary for the personalization of your account.
  8. Enter the details of your region and your date of birth. These include:
    • Country / region
    • Birth month
    • Birthday
    • Year of birth
  9. Confirm that you are not a robot. This is necessary for the privacy and security of all other users.
    • If you cannot read the letters and numbers, click New or Sound to change.

Tips

  • If you want to sign out of an Outlook account, click your name in the top right corner of the Inbox page, then click Sign out.

Warnings

  • "Hotmail" and "Windows Live" are no longer separate services. They are instead redirected to Outlook.
