This article shows you how to remove McAfee Security Center from a Windows or Mac computer.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On Windows

1. 

   Close McAfee if the program is active. Right-click the McAfee icon in the bottom-right of the screen and click Exit (Exit).
   • You may first have to click the up arrow here to see a list of running programs.

   Open Start. Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen, or press the key⊞ Win.
   • On a Windows 8 machine, you need to move the mouse pointer and the top right corner of the screen and then click on the magnifying glass icon.

   Typeadd or remove programs Go to Start. This step will bring up a list of programs on your PC, and the first item is the Add or Remove Programs system feature.
   • On Windows 7, you'll type programs and features Go to Start.

   Click Add or remove programs. This button is located at the top of the Start window.
   • On Windows 7, click Programs and Features (Programs and features).

   Scroll down and click McAfee Security Center. The icon has a red shield with a white "M" on it.

   Click Uninstall (Uninstall) twice. This item is under the application name (Windows 10) or above the Programs and Features window (Windows 7).
   • In some cases in Windows 7, you have to click Change or Remove (Change or Delete) at the top of the window.

   Click Yes if required. This step will activate McAfee uninstaller.

8. 

   Follow the instructions on the screen. The process includes validating the decision, as well as choosing specific McAfee ingredients to keep if you so choose. After completing the on-screen instructions, McAfee will be uninstalled from the PC. advertisement

Method 2 of 2: On a Mac

1. 

   Open Finder. This app has a blue face icon on the Mac dock.

2. 

   Click Applications (Application). This button is on the left side of the Finder window. This will open your Applications folder in the main Finder window.

3. 

   Find the McAfee app. The program has a red shield icon with a white "M" on it. You may have to scroll down to find it.

4. 

   Click and drag McAfee onto Trash. Trash application in the lower right corner of the screen; dropping McAfee here will uninstall the program from the Mac. advertisement

Advice

• If McAfee is running while preparing to uninstall, you may get an error stating that you cannot remove the active program.

Warning

• Uninstalling McAfee before installing another antivirus program will leave your computer vulnerable to viruses.
