This wikiHow teaches you how to connect a Kindle Firer HD to a TV, both wirelessly through Fire TV and using an HDMI to micro HDMI cable. You cannot connect a standard Kindle Fire to a TV.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Using an Amazon Fire TV

  1. Make sure your Fire TV is connected. To see your Kindle Fire HD screen on your TV, you must have a Fire Stick or Fire Box connected to your TV's HDMI port.
    • Both your Kindle Fire HD and Fire TV must be on the same wireless network and signed into the same Amazon profile.
  2. Turn on your TV. You will not immediately see the screen of your Kindle Fire HD, because you must enable screen casting on your Amazon Kindle HD tablet.
    • You need to change your TV's input to display the channel your Fire TV device is connected to (eg HDMI 3).
  3. Swipe down from the top of your Kindle Fire HD screen. This will open the quick options menu.
  4. Open Settings Tap on Display & Sounds. This is somewhere at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Tap on Mirror screen. This is somewhere at the bottom of the screen.
    • If you Mirror screen cannot be found on this page, your Kindle Fire HD does not support screencasting.
  6. Wait until you see the name of your TV and tap it. You will see it appear under the heading "Devices" in the center of the screen. If you see "Mirroring" appear below the TV name, successfully cast your Kindle Fire HD screen to your TV.
    • If you see the TV's name but can't connect, try moving closer to the TV or removing any objects that are obstructing the Fire Box's signal.

Method 2 of 2: Using an HDMI cable

  1. Buy an HDMI to micro HDMI cable. These cables have an HDMI plug on one end and a smaller HDMI plug on the other end, unlike traditional HDMI cables.
    • Kindle Fire HD 2017 line does not support HDMI output.
    • If your TV doesn't have an HDMI input, you will also need to buy an HDMI-to-analog adapter box and some RCA male-to-male cables.
  2. Connect your Kindle Fire HD to your TV with the HDMI cable. The large end of the cable should go into the TV and the small end should be plugged into the micro HDMI port on your Kindle Fire HD.
    • The micro-HDMI port is located next to the charging port at the bottom of the Kindle Fire HD.
    • If you are using an HDMI-to-analog adapter: Connect the Kindle Fire HD to the adapter with the HDMI cable, and connect the adapter to the TV with the RCA cables.
  3. Turn on your TV. You should see your Kindle Fire HD screen on your TV screen, although you may need to turn your Kindle Fire HD for the screen to appear right side up on your TV.
    • If necessary, you should also change your TV's input to match the port the Kindle Fire HD is connected to (for example, Video 3).

Warnings

  • You can only connect Kindle Fire HDs to a TV, the standard Kindle Fire devices cannot connect to TVs.
  • If your Kindle Fire HD is running an operating system under OS 2.0, you cannot connect it wirelessly to your TV.
