Burying the statue of Saint Joseph is considered a traditional and popular custom that people often resort to when trying to sell a house. The exact location of the statue can vary depending on who you ask, but there are still general procedures to follow.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Burying the Statue

1. 1 Buy a statue of Saint Joseph. Choose a small, simple figurine to make it easier to drop in. You can buy such a statue from a Catholic store or online.
   • The ideal height is 7.6-10 cm.
   • Nowadays, you can even buy a St. Joseph “home sale kit” from retail stores or some real estate companies. These kits typically include a small statue of Saint Joseph, a prayer card, and instructions.
2. 2 Wrap the statue in a protective cloth. Take a soft, clean tissue or similar material and wrap it around the statue several times, covering all sides, including the top and bottom. You can place the wrapped statue in a zippered plastic bag.
   • You can also wrap the statue in plastic wrap or place it directly in a plastic bag without wrapping it in cloth. The main goal is simply to protect it as much as possible from dirt and harm.

   • Day Seven: God, our Father, give your fatherly spirit to those who are currently a parent. Like Joseph, give them hearts full of the devoted love of their wives and children and strength for forgiveness and patience.
   • Day Eight: Give shelter, oh God, for those who need it, and gather broken families together. Give us enough to eat and a decent job to earn our bread. Take care of us, oh God.
   • Day 9: Bless all families, O Lord, especially those in need. In the name of Your Son, we pray for help for the poor, for those who do not have a good home, for those in exile. Grant them a protector like Joseph, O God.

Method 3 of 3: Freeing the Statue

1. 1 Dig up the statue when your house sells. Once the contract has been signed and the final details discussed, dig up the statue in your yard. Unfold the protective cloth and rinse off any dirt that may have gotten on the statue itself.
   • According to legend, if you leave the statue in the courtyard, the new owners of the house will not be able to stay in this house for a long time. New owners will come and go, one by one, until the statue is finally retrieved.

3. 3 Place the statue in a place of honor in your new home. Because Saint Joseph's intercession helped you sell your home, it is customary to have the sculpture you buried in your new home. Such actions demonstrate gratitude and reverence.
