Books are durable enough to be printed, but they must be properly and carefully packaged to protect them from liquids and rough handling during shipment. Wrap the books in plastic wrap, press them down with cardboard, then wrap the whole thing in paper and fill the shipping box with cushioning elements. Be sure to include a shipping address and, if desired, activate insurance and tracking services before mailing the books.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Pack the books

  1. 1 Wrap books in plastic wrap to keep them dry. It is best to use a large enough ziplock bag. Insert a straw into the bag and seal it to the limit; blow into a straw and then quickly seal the bag to fill the empty space with air.
    • Newspaper delivery plastic bags are also suitable for many books. Place the book in a bag, then wrap and seal with packing tape. Or simply wrap the book in a food plastic bag and tape the edges.
  2. 2 Pack the books in cardboard so they don't bend. Cut out two pieces of regular cardboard that are slightly larger than a book. Press the book between them to protect the cover.
    • Use pieces of regular cardboard, no graphics or stickers, as they can stick to the book or print on the cover.
  3. 3 Wrap the books with paper. Wrap the plastic bag and cardboard dividers with wrapping paper or newspaper, then tape it up. This will secure the cardboard and protect the book from damage.

Part 2 of 3: Prepare the shipping box

  1. 1 Choose the correct size box. Choose a sturdy box or container with free space so the corners can be filled with cushioning material. Make sure the books are flat and that the edges do not bend.
  2. 2 Fill the box. Fill the bottom of the box with packing material. Then carefully place the books in the box. Add cushioning material to the top and sides of the books to keep them from being damaged. Bubble wrap, expanded polystyrene granules and crumpled plastic bags can be used as a shock absorber. A crumpled newspaper is fine too, but as the weight of the parcel increases, the shipping cost may rise.
    • The weak point of hardcover books are corners that can bend. Pay special attention to protecting the corners.
    • If there is a lot of free space in the box, separate the books with an extra layer of cushioning. One way to do this is to sort the books by size into separate stacks and wrap each stack in bubble wrap.
  3. 3 Seal the box carefully. Close the box by lowering the valves straight without intertwining them together. Glue one end of the packing tape to the middle of the box on one side, and pull the other end through the lid and glue on the other.Repeat the same steps with the second piece of packing tape, pasting the box crosswise. Cover all flaps and openings with packing tape to avoid snagging or tearing the box.
    • For added protection, tape any open seams on the box with packing tape, but don't overdo it. The recipient is unlikely to like to cut off meter-long pieces of packing tape to get to the book.

Part 3 of 3: Submit Books

  1. 1 Please enter your shipping address. Stick the address sticker or write the shipping address and return address manually. The address sticker printed on plain paper may tear in transit. Cover the decal with clear tape or packing tape. Leave the barcodes unsealed as the tape can make them difficult to read.
  2. 2 Make on the parcel marked "Caution". While this does not guarantee that the books will be delivered intact, this mark will help postal workers know to handle the package with care. Use a red marker or ask the postal worker for a stamp or sticker.
    • When sending parcels by Russian post marked "Caution", an additional surcharge of 30% will be charged to the amount of payment for the entire mass of the parcel.
  3. 3 Consider insuring your package. If you ship a large number of rare or valuable books, why not have them insured? Insurance guarantees you a refund for the package if it is lost or stolen.
  4. 4 Track your parcel. Nowadays, postal services provide tracking services for free, but if this is not the case, connect it separately. This way you will know where your package is and when it will arrive.
  5. 5 Calculate the shipping cost. To calculate the time and cost of shipment, use a postage calculator or check the rates for sending parcels across Russia. To do this, set the appropriate queries in the search engine. If you live in another country, contact your local post office and get the necessary information from them.
