Faluda is a traditional Indian sweet drink that is mixed with rose syrup and other flavors. Despite the fact that the drink is not well known, gourmets from different countries quickly get used to its taste and consistency, similar to a milkshake or smoothie. Almost anyone can make a drink without problems, but it will be difficult to find some of the ingredients, which, however, are sold in most Indian or South Asian grocery stores.

Ingredients

Two portions.

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream
  • 2 teaspoons of basil seeds
  • 2 tablespoons rose syrup
  • Handful of faluda
  • Chopped pistachios for garnish (optional)
  • Rose petals for decoration (optional)

Steps

  1. 1 Find rare ingredients at an Indian grocery store. Milk, sugar and ice cream can be bought at almost any supermarket, but you won't find basil seeds, rose syrup, and falouda there. You will need to visit an Indian or South Asian grocery store. They can also be found in some stores that do not specialize in Indian food. Most of these ingredients can be ordered online if you can't find anywhere to buy them nearby.
    • Faluda is a type of Indian noodle that looks a bit like vermicelli. You can buy dry faluda or cook it yourself.
  2. 2 Soak the basil seeds. Pour them into a cup and fill with enough water to cover them to a height of about 2.5 centimeters. Stir once and then soak for 30 minutes. After soaking, drain the water through a fine mesh sieve and set the seeds aside.
    • While the seeds are soaking, you can move on to the next steps.
  3. 3 Heat milk and sugar. Pour milk and sugar into one medium saucepan, then bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes. Pour the thick milk into a separate container and chill in the refrigerator.
  4. 4 Prepare the falouda. For best results, follow the instructions on the package. Follow these steps if you are preparing halody yourself or there is no instruction on the store packaging:
    • Bring water to a boil in a small container.
    • Add falouda and cook for 4-5 minutes.
    • Drain the water through a sieve and then rinse the bottle under cold running water to stop the cooking process.
    • Use a knife or scissors to cut the noodles into small pieces.
  5. 5 Place the drink ingredients in a glass. Take two tall decorative glasses in which you intend to serve the drink. Add the ingredients to each of them in the following order (divide the ingredients in equal amounts for each of the glasses):
    • Basil seeds
    • Cooked falouda
    • Rose syrup
    • Milk. It is perfectly normal for basil or falouda seeds to float to the surface.
  6. 6 Decorate each glass with a hefty scoop of ice cream. If you wish, you can dissolve the ice cream in the drink, but this is not necessary. If you are not going to do this, dip it in milk at least once to give the ice cream a rose flavor.
  7. 7 Optionally, you can decorate your creation before serving. Falouda drink is ready to drink. If you'd like, add a handful of chopped pistachios and rose petals to the top of the drink, although you don't have to.
    • Serve the falouda right away. It should not be refrigerated or defended. Enjoy!

Method 1 of 1: Additional Serving Suggestions

  1. 1 Try different flavors of ice cream. Vanilla ice cream, due to its creamy taste, pairs especially well with rose syrup, but it is not the only option available. Other sweet and creamy flavors like strawberry, raspberry, and pistachio can be interesting additions. Some will love the taste of chocolate ice cream.
    • Do not use ice cream with "harsh" flavors (such as citrus) that can overpower the rose in the drink.
  2. 2 Try using nuts or dried fruit to decorate the drink. Pistachios and rose petals aren't the only ingredients that can be used for this. Most nuts and dried fruits are great for the top of a falouda drink. For example, golden raisins and chopped almonds are also good choices. Dried cranberries and other berries go well with the drink.
  3. 3 Try fruit. One of the advantages of faluda is that you can create the effect of a new taste by simply incorporating slices of your favorite fruit into the drink before adding ice cream. Mango, strawberry, and other sweet fruits work best. Astringent fruits like citrus fruits don't always go well with the creamy flavors of other ingredients.
  4. 4 Try making a faluda smoothie. If you love faluda but don't have enough time to lay out the ingredients, you can make a smoothie simply by tossing the ingredients into the blender. Pour the cocktail into a bottle so you can take your drink with you. You can also add ice cubes to a blender to thin the drink without changing the taste.
    • Smoothies may flake if stored in the refrigerator, but this does not make it unusable.

Tips

  • Whipped cream on top of the drink on top of ice cream is another fun decorating idea.
  • Cooking faluda by a large company will be an excellent option for spending time together. Try inviting guests to lay out the layers of the drink with you.The process should interest people who have never tried it.

Warnings

  • Proceed with caution and do not spill the drink. Removing milk stains that are stained with rose syrup can be particularly time consuming.
