This article will teach you how to hide or change the phone number that someone sees when you call that person on your Android. If your provider allows it, you can hide your number from your Android's call settings. If not, you can download an app and use it to change your caller ID. This app is called Dingtone and can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Via the Settings of Android

1. Open the Phone app on your Android. Tap the Phone app icon. It resembles a white horn on a green or blue background.
   • Not all carriers support hiding your caller ID from the settings. If this method doesn't work, try another method from this article.
2. Press MORE or ⋮. It's in the top right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear.
3. Press Settings. This option is in the drop-down menu. This will open the call settings.
   • Some Samsung phones require you to press "Call" before you can continue.
4. Scroll down and press More settings. This is almost at the bottom of the page.
5. Press Show my caller ID. This is almost at the top of the page. This will invoke a pop-up menu or a pull-down menu.
6. Press Hide number. This option is in the menu.This will hide your caller ID for as long as your carrier and / or region allows.
   • If you don't see this option, your provider doesn't support anonymous caller ID. You can contact your carrier and try to get this feature, as most Android phones support anonymous caller ID by themselves. However, this will probably come with a price tag.

Method 2 of 2: With Dingtone

1. Download Dingtone. Dingtone is a free app on the Google Play Store, but the downside to Dingtone is that you have to pay for more call time once you run out of it. By default, the app offers 15 credits of calling time. To download Dingtone, do the following:
   • Open the "Google Play Store" Press Sign Up. This blue button is at the bottom of the screen.
   • Enter your phone number. Press the "Press to enter your phone number" field and then enter your current phone number.
   • Press Further. It's in the top right corner of the screen.
   • Press OK when prompted. Dingtone will send an SMS with a verification code to the number you provided.
   • Open the Messages app on your Android. Make sure not to quit the Dingtone app while doing this.
   • Open the text message from Dingtone. Press the message from Dingtone that starts with "Your Dingtone Passcode".
   • Write down your verification number. The four-digit number in the text message is the code you need to use to verify your number and create your Dingtone account.
   • Go back to Dingtone and enter the verification number. Press the leftmost box at the top of the screen, then type the number.
   • Press Further. It's in the top right corner of the screen.
   • Enter a name and then press Further. Type the name you want to use in the text field at the top of the screen.
   • Press Get a FREE phone number when this message appears. It will appear in a pop-up window.
   • Enter your area code and then press Search. Do this at the top of the screen. The area code you enter must be that of the city or region that you want to use as a telephone number.
   • Select a number and then press Further. This sets the new number as your Dingtone caller ID.
   • Press Complete and then on Dial. This will take you to an infographic page in Dingtone.
   • Swipe from right to left and then press Call now!. This will open the Dingtone app.
   • Make a call. Enter the phone number you want to call and then press the green phone button to send the call. This will use your Dingtone phone number instead of your own number.
     • You can also hide your number by pressing "More" in the lower right corner of the screen, then "Settings", then "Call settings" and then the gray switch "Anonymous call".

Tips

• You can always hide your number from a call by typing an extension in front of the phone number (eg " * 68"). This function may be blocked in certain countries.

Warnings

• People usually answer the phone less often if they don't see the caller's number.
