In this article, we will show you how to block a lost or stolen smartphone. When you lock your phone, outsiders won't be able to log in or perform a hard reset, rendering the device useless to the kidnappers. So, you can block a lost or stolen iPhone, Android or Samsung Galaxy smartphone using the manufacturer's website to find devices. In this case, the search function must be enabled on the smartphone (for example, “Find iPhone”).

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Using Find iPhone for iPhone

1. 1 Open the iCloud website. Follow the link https://www.icloud.com/ in your browser.
   • Find My iPhone must be activated on your device.
2. 2 Sign in to iCloud. Enter your Apple ID email address and password, then tap →.
   • Skip this step if you are already signed in to iCloud.
3. 3 Click on Find iPhone. The radar icon is located in the iCloud toolbar.
4. 4 Choose your iPhone. Click the tab All devices at the top of the page, then select your iPhone from the drop-down menu.
   • If your iPhone is the only Apple device registered with your Apple ID, then skip this step.
5. 5 Find out the location of the device. When the service finds your iPhone, a pop-up window will appear at the top right of the page.
6. 6 Click on Lost Mode (Lost Mode). The button is at the bottom of the window. After that, a new page will open in the window.
7. 7 Enter your phone number. Provide a backup phone number where you can be contacted. This phone number will appear on the locked screen of the lost iPhone.
   • This step is recommended if you think you have accidentally lost your phone.
8. 8 Click on Further. The button is in the upper right corner of the window.
9. 9 Enter your message. Enter the message that will be displayed on the smartphone screen.
10. 10 Click on Ready. The button is in the upper right corner of the window. After that, the iPhone will be put into Lost Mode and no one will be able to unlock the smartphone until you turn off this mode.
    • To deactivate Lost Mode, press Lost Mode and select Stop Lost Mode (Disable Lost Mode) at the bottom of the dropdown menu.
11. 11 Erase all data. In the worst case scenario, it is best to completely delete all data from the device so that it does not fall into the hands of intruders. Follow these steps:
    • click Erase iPhone;
    • click Erase;
    • enter your Apple ID password and other required information;
    • press again if necessary Erase.

Part 2 of 4: Using “Find My Device” for Android

1. 1 Open the Find My Device website. Follow the link https://www.google.com/android/find in your browser.
2. 2 Sign in to your account. Enter the email address and password for the Android device you want to block.
3. 3 Select a phone. On the left side of the page, click on the phone you want to block.
4. 4 Click on BLOCK. This tab is on the left side of the page. After that, under the button BLOCK a menu will open.
5. 5 Enter password. If your Android device does not have a password set for the lock screen, then you will need to enter a temporary password in the "New password" and "Confirm password" fields.
6. 6 Enter your message. In the "Recovery message" field, enter the text of the message that will be displayed on the lock screen of your smartphone. This step is recommended if you think you have accidentally lost your phone.
7. 7 Enter your phone number. In the "Phone number" field, enter the number by which you can be contacted. This number will appear on the locked screen of your Android device.
   • This action is optional, as with the message.
8. 8 Click on BLOCK. The green button is at the bottom of the page. After that, the device will be locked and no one can access your data.
9. 9 Erase all data. In the worst case, it is best to completely delete all data from the device so that it does not fall into the hands of intruders. To delete all data from the device, select your smartphone, click the tab DELETE DATA and follow the instructions on the computer screen.

Part 3 of 4: Using “Find My Mobile” for Samsung

1. 1 Open the Find My Mobile website. Go to https://findmymobile.samsung.com/ in your browser.
2. 2 Click on TO COME IN. The button is in the center of the page.
3. 3 Enter your account login information. Enter your email address and password.
4. 4 Check the box "I'm not a robot". This item is at the bottom of the page.
5. 5 Click on TO COME IN. A list of your Samsung smartphones and tablets will open.
6. 6 Select your device. Click on the device you want to block.
7. 7 Click on BLOCK MY DEVICE. This item is in the pop-up menu.
   • Also, this item may be on the left side of the page.
8. 8 Follow the directions on the screen. Depending on the settings of your Samsung device, you may need to enter information that appears on the screen of your lost smartphone or set a password.
   • As a last resort, you can erase all information on your device to protect your data. Click on REMOVE MY DEVICE and follow the instructions on the computer screen.

Part 4 of 4: Contact the Competent Authority

1. 1 Contact your mobile operator. If your phone is stolen, then you need to immediately contact the operator. The mobile operator will disconnect your number to prevent the kidnapper from making calls or sending messages from your phone. Also, the operator will report the IMEI number, which will need to be indicated in the statement to the police.
2. 2 Contact your local police station. Go to your local police station or call the non-emergency number and report the theft of your phone. Provide as many details as possible and find out in advance your IMEI number, which is required for the application. That way, not only will you get a chance to get your device back, but you can also file a claim with the insurance company and prove that the phone is indeed stolen if they try to accuse you of fraud.
3. 3 Contact your insurance company. If you have your phone insured, write down the police report number and contact the insurance company for a replacement phone. Contact the company and follow the directions.

Tips

• Not all Android smartphones are compatible with the Samsung website, but you can use “Find My Device” and “Find My Mobile” services to find Samsung devices on Android.
