You can delete contacts from your Android device through the Contacts or People app. Alternatively, you can turn off account syncing to erase contacts that were acquired during the sync process. If you store your contacts in your Google Account, use the Google Contacts site to be able to organize and delete them.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Deleting a Contact

1. 1 Open the Contacts or People app. The name of the app will depend on which Android device you are using.
2. 2 Click on the contact you want to delete. This will open a page with contact details.
   • If you want to delete multiple contacts at once, press and hold the first contact until a menu with a list of options opens, then select additional contacts. This function may look different depending on your device.
3. 3 Click Remove. The location and appearance of this button may vary slightly, but it is usually located at the top of the screen. The button might have the word “Delete” written on it, or it might look like a trash can.You may first have to click on the button in the form of three vertical dots, and in the menu that opens, select the "Delete" item.
4. 4 Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion of the selected contacts. You will be prompted to confirm your decision to permanently delete contacts from your device.

Method 2 of 3: Disable Account Synchronization

1. 1 Open the Settings app. Unsynchronizing your account will erase all contacts that were added during the sync. This method is suitable for deleting multiple contacts at the same time.
2. 2 Open the "Accounts" category. It is located in the "Personal data" section.
3. 3 Click on the account you want to disable syncing with. All contacts of this account will be deleted from the device.
4. 4 Disable the Synchronize Contacts option. If you turn off the sync of contacts, the list of contacts will stop automatically updating with contacts from this account. If you can't find this option, turn off auto-sync with this account completely.
5. 5 Press the ⋮ button. It is located in the upper right corner of the screen. A small menu will open.
6. 6 Select "Sync Now". This will activate sync with the account, and since the contacts have been disabled, all contacts of this account will be deleted from the device.

Method 3 of 3: Delete Google Contacts

1. 1 Open your internet browser. If you store your contacts on a Google Account, use Google Contacts to manage them more efficiently. To do this, go to the Google Contacts page.
   • This method will only affect those contacts that are stored on your Google account. Contacts saved on your phone or other account will have to be deleted separately.
2. 2 Enter contacts.google.com into the address bar of the browser. Sign in with the same account as on your Android device.
3. 3 Click on the contact avatars to select them. The search box at the top of the page will help you quickly find the contacts you want.
4. 4 Click on the trash can button at the top of the screen. This will remove all selected contacts from your Google account.
   • If the cart is grayed out, one or more of the selected contacts were added via Google+. To remove them, you'll first need to remove them from your Google+ circles. For more detailed instructions, check out How to create circles on Google+.
5. 5 Open the Settings app on your Android. After deleting contacts from the Google Contacts page, you need to re-sync your account with your Android device.
6. 6 Open the "Accounts" category. It is located in the "Personal data" section.
7. 7 Select your Google account. If you have more than one Google account, you will be prompted to select the one whose settings you want to change.
8. 8 Press the ⋮ button. It is located in the upper right corner of the screen.
9. 9 Click Sync Now. Your Google account will re-sync all of its data, including your contacts. Any contacts you delete on Google Contacts will disappear from your Android device.
