A round tablecloth can be used to cover both a large dining table and a small round side table. Depending on the width of the available fabric and the diameter of the table, several pieces of fabric may need to be stitched together to make a round tablecloth. You can even sew a tablecloth out of different fabrics. For the tablecloth, a cotton or medium-weight linen can be used, or a cotton cloth with a water-repellent impregnation so that the tablecloth can be wiped clean.

Steps

  1. 1 Measure the diameter of the table. If you want the tablecloth to hang off the table, be sure to measure the distance from the tabletop to the floor as well.
    • If you don't want the tablecloth to hang down to the floor, only measure the length you need. For example, you may want the tablecloth to hang down just to the level of your knees.
  2. 2 Determine how much fabric you need. Add twice the length of the hanging edge of the tablecloth to the diameter of the table.
  3. 3 Cut the fabric to the length calculated above, taking into account the 2.5 cm allowance addition.
  4. 4 Fold the two fabric cuts together, right sides inward. Pin them along one of the longitudinal sides.
    • This is only necessary if your fabric is not wide enough to cover the table. For example, if the diameter of your table is 90 cm, the tablecloth should hang 45 cm from it, then you need a fabric 183 cm wide.
  5. 5 Sew the chipped edge of the panels, retreating 1.3 cm from the edge.
  6. 6 Unfold the fabric and smooth the seam.
  7. 7 Cut the fabric to the width of the tablecloth, taking into account the 2.5 cm allowance for the fold.
  8. 8 Fold the fabric in half with the right side facing in. Fold the fabric in half again, but in a different direction, to get a square 4 times smaller than the original.
  9. 9 Attach a measuring tape diagonally to the square from the folded corner to the opposite corner. Measure out half the diameter of the required cloth for the tablecloth and mark the fabric.
  10. 10 Draw an arc from the mark you made to the two adjacent corners of the square.
  11. 11 Cut out the fabric along the line you have drawn. When you unfold the fabric, you should have a circle.
  12. 12 Iron the fabric to remove any fold marks.
  13. 13 Trim the edges of the tablecloth. Fold the hem over to the wrong side 6 mm and then 19 mm. Pin and sew.
