1 Collect ingredients. This disinfectant is similar to those sold at the store or pharmacy, but without additional chemicals or foul odor. Hand sanitizer should not replace hand washing; only use it when you really need it. Here's what you need:- 2/3 cup 99% medical (isopropyl) or ethyl alcohol (do not use a lower concentration alcohol solution);
- 1/3 cup pure aloe vera gel (preferably no additives)
- 8-10 drops of essential oils such as lavender, cloves, cinnamon, or peppermint;
- a bowl;
- a spoon;
- funnel;
- plastic container (bottle, bottle).
- If you want a thicker solution, add another scoop of aloe vera.
- If you want to thin the solution, add a spoonful of rubbing alcohol.
- Use whatever scent you like. The essential oils of lavender, cloves, cinnamon, peppermint, lemon, grapefruit, or passionfruit are suitable.
- If you want to carry your sanitizer around with you, a small dispenser bottle will work well.
- If the mixture does not fit in the bottle, drain the remaining disinfectant into a jar with a tight lid.
Method 2 of 2: Witch Hazel Hand Cleanser
- 1 Collect ingredients. Some people dislike alcohol-based hand sanitizers, as alcohol has a strong odor and can dry out the skin a lot. A product based on witch hazel cleans the skin softer, but is not a disinfectant, since it does not kill viruses and bacteria. Here's what you need:
- 1 cup pure aloe vera gel (preferably no additives)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons witch hazel
- 30 drops of tea tree oil;
- 5 drops of an essential oil such as lavender or peppermint
- a bowl;
- a spoon;
- funnel;
- plastic container (bottle, bottle).
- 2 Combine aloe vera gel, tea tree oil and witch hazel. To thicken the mixture, add another scoop of aloe vera. To make it thinner, add a spoonful of witch hazel.
- 3 Add essential oil. Since tea tree oil has a strong scent, add it a little at a time. Five drops should be sufficient, but if you want to add more, add one drop at a time.
- 4 Pour the mixture into a container through a funnel. Insert a funnel into the neck of a container and fill it with hand sanitizer. Refill container and close until further use.
- If you want to carry the product with you, a small dispenser bottle will work well.
- If the mixture does not fit in the bottle, drain the remaining disinfectant into a jar with a tight lid.
Warnings
- Be careful not to get the product in your eyes! If disinfectant gets into the eye, rinse immediately with water or contact an emergency room.
