Ever wanted to learn how to bake delicious pasta? There are different ways to make them, but most recipes use tomato sauce and lots of cheese. Regardless of what pasta you bake, the dish will turn out to be very tasty, and the cooking process itself will be easy, there are just a few tricks!

Ingredients

Vegetarian Baked Pasta

  • 450 g pasta (penne, rotini or rigatoni)
  • 4 cups (950 ml) marinara sauce (homemade or commercial)
  • ½ cup (50 g) Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 450 g ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups (200 g) Mozzarella cheese, grated

10 servings

Baked pasta with ground beef

  • 450 g pasta (penne, rotini or rigatoni)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 450 g lean ground beef
  • 770 ml spaghetti sauce
  • 180 g Provolone cheese, cut into pieces
  • 1½ cups (375 g) sour cream
  • 180 g Mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons (30 g) Parmesan cheese, grated

10 servings

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Vegetarian Baked Pasta

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 175 ° C.
  2. 2 Cook pasta. Put the pasta in salted boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Then drain and set aside. Cook the pasta for less than the recommended time to make it undercooked as you will still be baking it.
  3. 3 Transfer half of the marinara sauce and half of the pasta to a greased baking dish. Gently stir the sauce with the pasta so that all of the pasta is evenly covered with the sauce. Set aside any remaining pasta and sauce - you'll need them for the second layer.
    • Use a baking dish with a capacity of about 2.8 L.
  4. 4 Place a layer of cheese on top. Start with ¼ cup (25 g) Parmesan cheese, then add half of the Ricotta cheese. Add 1 cup (100 g) Mozzarella cheese.
  5. 5 Make another layer of pasta and a layer of cheese. Combine leftover pasta with leftover marinara sauce and add to a baking dish. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese on top, add Ricotta cheese and Mozzarella cheese on top.
  6. 6 Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Make sure the foil does not touch the cheese, or the cheese will stick to it.
  7. 7 Bake without a lid for 10-15 minutes. If you want the top layer to be crispy, place the pasta dish (without a lid) on the highest position in the oven, close to the heating element - this will turn the cheese golden. This usually takes about 4 minutes.
  8. 8 Remove the dish from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. This will not only allow the pasta to cool slightly so that it is easier to eat, but it will also allow the sauce to settle and penetrate into all corners - so the casserole will taste better.
  9. 9 Ready!

Method 2 of 2: Baked Ground Beef Pasta

  1. 1 Preheat oven to 175 ° C.
  2. 2 Cook pasta. Put the pasta in salted boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Then drain and set aside. Cook the pasta for less than the recommended time to make it undercooked as you will still be baking it.
  3. 3 Fry the onions and minced meat in a skillet over medium heat. The pan should be large enough to hold the pasta sauce you will add later. Stir the onions and meat from time to time with a spatula during frying - this is the only way to cook them evenly.
  4. 4 Add spaghetti sauce and simmer for 15 minutes. This will make the sauce and meat flavors blend well. Remember to stir occasionally to ensure all ingredients are cooked evenly.
  5. 5 Place half of the pasta, Provolone cheese and sour cream in a greased baking dish. Use a spatula to spread the pasta evenly over the bottom of the dish, then place the Provolone cheese slices on top. Place a layer of sour cream on top of the cheese. The leftover pasta will be needed for the next layer.
    • Use a baking dish about 23 cm by 33 cm.
  6. 6 Place half of the sauce on top of the sour cream. Try to distribute the sauce as evenly as possible. Now you only need to lay out half of the mixture, as the remaining mixture will go to the second layer.
  7. 7 Add remaining pasta, mozzarella and sauce. Place the pasta on top of the sauce, then add the Mozzarella cheese. Try to keep the layers as even as possible. Finish with a layer of sauce on top.
  8. 8 Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the dish. This will be the final touch - it will give a delicious crunchy layer on top.
  9. 9 Bake for about 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted. If you want the top to be crispy, then place the pasta dish on the highest position of the oven, close to the heating element - this will turn the cheese golden. This usually takes about 4 minutes.
  10. 10 Remove the dish from the oven. Let the pasta cool slightly, leaving for 5-10 minutes, and then serve. Also, during this time, the sauce will have time to soak all the pasta, so the casserole will be tastier.
  11. 11 Ready!

Tips

  • Do not use even types of pasta (such as chichi), they will not hold the sauce. Try pasta with a variety of curls and patterns (such as rigatoni, riccioli, or rochetti).
  • Do not cook pasta. Hot sauce and oven heat will do the job.
  • For a crispy top, place the casserole as high as possible on the heating elements in the oven (at the highest position) and wait until the top is golden, usually about 4 minutes.
  • Let the casserole sit for 5-10 minutes. This will infuse the sauce and cool the casserole slightly.
  • Use olive oil or vegetable oil if you think the water might boil over. This will not change the taste of the pasta, but it will reduce the risk of overboiling the water.
  • Always use oven mitts when removing hot food from the oven.
  • Try adding other ingredients to the sauce, like broccoli florets or chopped mushrooms!
