Dyson vacuum cleaners are designed in such a way that they can be cleaned completely without using bags or heating. They use canisters, bladeless fans and washable filters. If you haven't cleaned your Dyson in years, then flushing can improve its performance.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Cleaning the Filters

  1. 1 Unplug the vacuum cleaner. Take out the canister. Open the latch on top of the canister to release the first filter.
  2. 2 Read on the top or side of the filter how often it is recommended to clean it. For most filters, it is recommended to do this with a frequency of 1 to 6 months.
  3. 3 Examine the rubber edges of the first filter. If they are damaged or the fabric is torn, you will need to replace the filter.
  4. 4 Use the sink. Pour water on both sides of the filter and squeeze it out. Repeat this process several times.
    • Squeeze it out one last time. Lay it upside down on an outdoor windowsill.
    • Turn it over after 24 hours. It should dry 48 hours after deep cleaning and 24 hours after monthly cleaning.
    • Dyson recommends using cool water rather than warm water to clean the filters.
  5. 5 Take out the second filter. Depending on the model of the vacuum cleaner, this filter can be located either under the canister or inside the ball. Open the clip on the canister or balloon to remove the filter.
    • Unlike the first filter, the second filter is likely to be harsh.
  6. 6 Turn the filter upside down. Sprinkle cool water on the bottom of the filter for 10 seconds. Turn the filter over and discard the water.
  7. 7 Tap the filter on the sink to shake out the dirt. Repeat this process 10 times.
  8. 8 Place the filter upside down on a sun-lit outdoor window sill for 24 hours. Then turn it over and let it dry for another 24 hours. Make sure the filter is completely dry before putting it in the vacuum cleaner, as it is next to the motor. A wet filter can damage the motor.

Part 2 of 3: Cleaning the canisters

  1. 1 Find the filter that removes the outside of the canister from the inside. It usually comes with a colored clip. Open the clip and remove the canister.
  2. 2 Open the top of the canister where the first filter was located. Keep it open while you wash the inside so the water can flow out.
  3. 3 Rinse the inside of the canister under running water. Remove dirt with your hands.
  4. 4 Flip the insides with your feet. Pour water over the rubber pad and let the water come out from behind. Continue until the flowing out water is clear.
  5. 5 Remove the inner bucket. Place the outside of the plastic canister in the sink. Rinse it inside and out with cool water.
    • Dyson does not recommend the use of detergents.
  6. 6 Dry these parts within 48 hours in a well-ventilated area.
  7. 7 Find catchers near the base of the hoses. These are small sections to remove blockages from. Open with a little force and remove any debris that has accumulated inside.
    • Put the hoses back.
    • In small Dyson vacuum cleaners, the traps can be designed in such a way that they cannot be cleaned.

Part 3 of 3: Cleaning the Body and Handle

  1. 1 Wipe the outside of the vacuum cleaner with a disinfectant wipe. Wipe hose grooves and ribbed plastic surfaces.
  2. 2 Press down on the clip to detach the top post. Place Dyson flat on the ground. Turn the vacuum over to reach the brushes.
  3. 3 Find a circle with a groove. Insert a screwdriver and turn it until the circle clicks. Click on the clip and slide the lock to access the brushes.
  4. 4 Take out the brush. It must be removed completely, unless it is very heavily soiled.
  5. 5 Remove threads, hair and dust from the brush. Remove debris by hand.
  6. 6 Remove all pellets from small brushes.
  7. 7 Get to the area under the brush. Remove all pellets and hair. Wipe down the inside with a disinfectant cloth.
  8. 8 Wipe the bottom of the vacuum cleaner with a disinfectant cloth until completely clean.
  9. 9 Leave the vacuum cleaner alone for 48 hours and then reassemble it. Repeat cleaning every 6 months.
