This article will show you how to change the background in the Google Chrome browser. If you have the latest version of Google Chrome, use the "Settings" menu in the new tab to upload your background or select one from a predefined list. Also in Google Chrome, you can add a theme using the browser settings.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Using a new tab

1. 1 Start Google Chrome . Click or double-click the red-yellow-green-blue circle icon.
   • If you don't have the latest version of Chrome, click ⋮ in the upper right corner, select Help, click About Google Chrome, click Update, and then click Restart when prompted.
2. 2 Open a new tab. If a site is opened in Google Chrome, and not an empty (new) tab, click on the "＋" icon to the right of the tab that is located to the right of all open tabs; a new tab will open.
3. 3 Click on the "Settings" icon . It's in the bottom right corner of the page. A pop-up menu will open.
4. 4 Click on Upload image. It's in the pop-up menu. An Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window opens.
   • You can also click Chrome Backgrounds from the menu if you want to use a background image from Google.
5. 5 Select an image. Navigate to the folder with the desired image, and then click on it.
   • If you're using the Chrome Backgrounds menu, just click on the image you want.
6. 6 Click on Open. This button is at the bottom of the window. The image will be set as the background of the new tab.
   • If you're using the Chrome Backgrounds menu, click Done at the bottom of the window.

Method 2 of 2: Using a theme

1. 1 Start Google Chrome . Click or double-click the red-yellow-green-blue circle icon.
2. 2 Click on ⋮. It's in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window. A menu will open.
3. 3 Click on Settings. This option is on the menu. The settings page will open.
4. 4 Scroll down and tap Themes. It's near the top of the Appearance section.
5. 5 Choose a background theme. Scroll through the list of themes, find the theme you want, and then tap on it to select.
6. 6 Click on Add to Chrome. It's a blue button at the top of the page. The theme will be installed; depending on the selected theme, it may appear at the top of the browser window.
   • If the top of the Chrome window hasn't changed, click the ＋ icon to the right of the tab to the right of all open tabs; a new tab will open. The topic will be displayed in a new tab.

Tips

• You can create your own theme if you don't like the suggested themes.

Warnings

• If you're using Chrome on your work or school computer, you probably won't be able to change the background or theme due to system administrator restrictions.
