This article will guide you on how to delete photos that you have sent via Facebook's messaging application or via the Facebook website. It's important to know that you can't delete a photo from your entire conversation - ‘'Deleting a picture won't appear to you, but the other person will still see' '. In some cases, these pictures will remain in the “Shared Photos” section of the conversation, so you will need to delete the conversation as well.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Delete photos on mobile

1. 

   Open Facebook Messenger. Click the Messenger app icon with a blue dialog with white lightning inside. You will see a list of recent conversations if signed into Messenger.
   • If you aren't logged into Messenger, enter your phone number and password when prompted before proceeding.

   Select a conversation. Tap the conversation containing the photo you want to delete. Do this to open that conversation.
   • If Messenger opens a page with no conversations, first press the `` Home '' tab located in the bottom left corner of the screen (iPhone) or the top left corner of the screen. screen (Android).
   • If Messenger opens a conversation you don't need, first press the "Back" button located in the top left corner of the screen to return to the homepage.

   Find the photo. Scroll up on the conversation until you find the photo you want to delete.

   • Tap on the name of the person chatting with you, it is at the top of the conversation (iPhone) or the icon ⓘ located in the top right corner of the screen (Android).
   • Scroll down to the "Shared Photos" section.
   • Find the photo you deleted.
   • If you find a photo, try closing and reopening Facebook Messenger to see if it disappears from the "Shared Photos" section. If not, you need to delete the entire conversation.

Method 2 of 4: Delete photos on computer

1. 

   Open Facebook Messenger. Go to https://www.facebook.com/messages/ using the browser. This will open the most recent conversation if you are logged into Facebook in the browser.
   • If you aren't logged in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password, then press ‘’ Log In ’’.

   Select a conversation. Tap the conversation containing the photo you want to delete.

   Find photos. Scroll through the conversation until you find the photo you want to delete.

   Press ⋯. This button is next to the image. When you click this button, a menu will appear.
   • If you were the sender of the photo, this icon is to the left of the image. If someone else sends the photo, you'll see this icon to the right of the photo.

   Press Delete. This button is in the menu.

   Press Delete when there is an announcement. This will delete the photo and you won't see it anymore, but the '' other people will still see the photo if they haven't deleted it ''.

   Check shared photos. Usually the photos deleted from the conversation will also be removed from the “Shared Photos” section of the conversation's settings, but you can check to make sure:

Method 3 of 4: Delete mobile conversations

1. 

   Click the Messenger app icon with a blue dialog with a white lightning bolt in the middle. Your conversation list will be opened if you are signed in to Messenger.
   • If you aren't logged into Messenger, enter your phone number and password when prompted before proceeding.

   Find the conversation you want to delete. It should be the conversation containing the photo that you have not yet deleted.
   • If Messenger opens a conversation, press the "Back" button located in the top left corner of the screen.

   Press and hold a conversation. Long press will bring up a menu.
   • If you have an iPhone 6S or later, lightly press and hold the conversation to avoid activating the 3D Touch feature.

   Click Delete Conversation. This button is in the pop-up menu.

   Click Delete Conversation when there is an announcement. This will delete the conversation and all related photos from the Facebook Messenger app.
   • Note that the other person will still be able to access the entire conversation and photos, unless they also delete the conversation.

Method 4 of 4: Delete conversations on computer

1. 

   Open Facebook Messenger. Go to https://www.facebook.com/messages/ using the browser. This will open the most recent conversation if you were logged into Facebook in the browser
   • If you aren't logged in, enter your email address (or phone number) and password, then press ‘’ Log In ’’.

2. 

   Select a conversation. Place the mouse pointer over the conversation containing a photo that you cannot delete. You should see a gray gear icon appear in the conversation preview.

   Click the gray gear icon. A drop-down menu will appear.

4. 

   Press Delete. This button is in the drop-down menu.

5. 

   Press Delete when there is an announcement. This will delete the conversation and all related pictures and you won't see them on Facebook Messenger anymore.
   • Note that the other person will still be able to access the entire conversation and photos, unless they also delete the conversation.

Advice

• On both the mobile and desktop versions of Facebook Messenger, you may need to close and reopen Messenger before the photo is deleted from the “Shares Photos” section of Messenger.

Warning

• Deleting a photo from your side won't make it disappear from the other person.
