Affiliate marketing is a great way to earn some extra income if you have a blog or website. With the Amazon Affiliate Program, or Amazon Associates, you can earn 4 percent or more from purchases made through a special link on your blog or website. Read on to find out how to make money with the Amazon Affiliate Program.

Part 1 of 3: Start a website / blog

Start online. The best Amazon Affiliates are bloggers or websites that post links to Amazon along with quality content on their own site. Consider starting one of the following online websites:
- Start a free online blog with Blogger, WordPress or a similar site. Since you can start these blogs for free, the only costs you incur are the time and energy you spend designing and creating content. Choose something you are passionate about so that you can add interesting content and build followers.
- Set up a website. Professional or business website can also use the Affiliate program. However, it is best used by people who don't sell similar products on their website as Amazon can take away their customers. If you have a website promoting different products, or a club, a non-profit, or a service, you can recommend high-quality products on your site and make money from it.
- Set up social media accounts for your blog or site. This is a great way to improve search engine rankings, stay in touch with your readers, and increase the number of links you share. You can post Amazon links on Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn if you want to recommend something.
Post high-quality content regularly. You collect readers by the value of your content, so post something on your blog / website at least once a week.
Win loyalty. People who think they are being sold on are not likely to come back. List affiliate links as recommendations, a list of "best products" and favorite suppliers, rather than making an obvious sales pitch to steal money from your readers.
- The more fun you have in posting links, the more likely you are to make money. For example, you can post a "best-of" blog about the most innovative, new products of the year or the best non-fiction books of the year. Post a link to Amazon products and people will use that link as a reference to purchase the product.

Part 2 of 3: Sign up for Amazon Associates

Go to affiliate-program.amazon.com. Please read the information carefully before registering. You need to understand what products are available, how to post them, and how to get paid before setting up an account.
- With Amazon Affiliates, you earn income through advertising or commissions that vary depending on the type of product. Your advertising income increases when you make more than 6 sales per month through your affiliate links.
Click the "Join Now for Free" button when you are ready to begin.
Log in with your Amazon username and password. Select your official payment address from a drop-down menu or enter it now.
Fill in the information about your website, your visitors and how you want to generate income online. You will be asked to enter all the websites you want to use to post Amazon links. Please verify your identity before proceeding.
Search through the products on Amazon's Associates Central page.
Choose a number of products to integrate into your blog posts. It is a good idea to use the "Bestseller" filter to find the products that sell the best in each category.
Post the link on your website. You can choose to post an image, an image and a text or a text link, depending on how you want it to look.
Use the Amazon Associates site stripe, the toolbar at the top of the page, to get links to the products you want to post.

Over time, build links to different types of products. Amazon pays you a commission based on the total amount someone spends, not just the product you're promoting.
- Most importantly, you get people to Amazon by using Amazon's referral link so they can make whatever purchases they want to make.
Use your referral link when you send information via email or to your family members. You will receive commission on the purchase from anyone but yourself if they use the referral link within 24 hours.
- Trade Amazon Associates referral links with a friend or family member. Make your own purchases with their link so they benefit from it and ask them to do the same. While this probably isn't the best way to make money, it can sometimes improve your commission structure.
Add widgets to your site. Amazon Associates has widgets and online stores that you can add to your website. Put some recommended products in your sidebar.
Promote products over € 80. The more expensive the product your reader buys, the more commission you earn, so make sure to recommend more expensive, high-quality products.
Use lists. Most online stores have lists of popular products. Every month or quarter, create your own list of product recommendations in a new category that will be of value to you and your readers.
Post season-related content with Amazon Associate links. People buy more around Christmas and Santa Claus, so post recommended products before Santa Claus to hitch a ride on the sales Amazon will do anyway.
- If you haven't yet created your seasonal plan for your blog posts and your marketing, start now. There are a dozen of holidays such as Easter, Valentine's Day and Halloween that can lead to more sales if the advice and links are timely and interesting.
Optimize your blog or website. Apply search engine optimization techniques such as keyword density, short URLs and backlinks to increase traffic to your site. The more readers you have, the more clicks you will get on your Amazon Associates links.

Consider signing up for other affiliate programs as soon as you start receiving income from Amazon Associates. Amazon Associates can be valuable because of the large number of people who shop at Amazon, but other online affiliate programs have higher commissions.
